Praying for Revival Praying for Revival
November 21, 2006

Today, God’s people are praying for revival on college and university campuses across the country. InterVarsity is beginning to see his gracious answer to those prayers in many students who are becoming Christians.

When His People Pray, God Answers
InterVarsity’s national leadership team is committed to following God’s command to make disciples of all people. Over the past year, many InterVarsity staff and students have been trained to present the gospel on campus. They are praying daily for students who do not yet know the saving grace that God has offered in his Son, Jesus Christ.

And God is answering these prayers. At the University of California—San Diego, 43 students responded to the gospel this fall, accepting Jesus as their Savior. Twenty-five students became Christians during a three-day evangelism event in Texas. In Detroit, York Moore, the InterVarsity regional evangelism specialist, spoke at Oakland University. Fifty-two students submitted to the lordship of Christ during this week-long evangelistic event. At schools in northern Illinois, 28 students have become Christians this fall. Jim Lundgren, Vice President of Collegiate Ministries, is amazed at what God is doing: “I have never seen this many students make conversion decisions through campus missions during my 30-plus years on staff.”

Each one of these numbers represents a person lovingly called by God to a relationship with him, a person like Matt, a student at Montclair State University in New Jersey. After hearing a gospel presentation given by the chapter president, Matt realized that he had been giving too many excuses for not entering into a relationship with God. Another student pulled Matt aside, read Scripture with him and helped him enter the kingdom of God. Two InterVarsity staff members spoke with Matt and welcomed him into the Christian community. Tears welled up in his eyes as one of the staff members told him how the angels were rejoicing in heaven that very moment because of the choice he had made.

Today, God’s people are praying for revival on college and university campuses across the country. We are beginning to see his gracious answer to those prayers and anticipate many more students and faculty being brought into the kingdom of God.
