July 1-11

Thank God for:

  • The 18 international students who accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior during the past school year on campuses in Oregon and Washington.

Please pray for:

  • Shane Arthur to seek God's wisdom and plans for the ministry as he begins his new role as area director for eastern Virginia, leading 12 staff who work with over 1,000 students.
  • One hundred students and 18 staff from around the Great Lakes regions to develop Christ-like character and servant leader hearts as they participate in the InterVarsity Leadership Institute July 4-31, at Cedar Campus, an InterVarsity training facility in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
  • Annalyn and Jonathan Guest, campus staff members at Portland State University in Washington, as they boldly share the love and Gospel of Jesus Christ with interna­tional students during the summer picnics.
  • Chapter members as they study God's Word together, build community, and welcome new students into their campus fellowship during small group Bible studies in the dorms this summer at University of California—Santa Barbara.
  • Emerson Luke, as he raises financial support this summer to begin planting a campus fellowship in August at California's Sacramento City College.
  • Ten students from campuses throughout Illinois as they serve and develop relationships with students and staff of the Student Christian Organization of Malawi during their mission trip through July 26.

July 12-18

Thank God for:

  • Brian and Lauren Mann, Greek staff in Illinois, who are transitioning into the roles of Regional Greek Coordinators in the Blue Ridge region, serving the 600 fraternity and sorority students in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
  • The 115 students from campuses in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas who accepted Christ into their lives during the 2008-2009 school year.

Please pray for:

  • Bobby Gross as he works this month with the Graduate & Faculty Ministries (GFM) Leadership Team to formulate goals for the next academic year in his new role as the national director for GFM.
  • Ron Riesinger, area director in the Northwest region, as he trains two new International Student Ministries interns this summer.
  • Staff members in California as they lead students in displaying the love of God and sharing the Gospel by serving residents during an Urban Project in Fresno, CA, and a Global Project to Bosnia. Pray for safety and that those they encounter would have open hearts to receive the Gospel message.
  • Sarah Huang, working to plant an InterVarsity chapter at California State University—Long Beach, to trust God's provision and be diligent as she seeks to raise support to begin outreach to students in the fall.
  • People to join the InterVarsity GFM staff teams at universities in the six-state New England region and share God's love with graduate students and faculty members on campuses throughout the region.

July 19-25

Thank God for:

  • Several Asian American InterVarsity chapters being planted in the Ohio Valley Division (West Virginia, west­ern Pennsylvania, and Ohio) this past school year.
  • John Sleeba, staff at the University of Texas—Austin, and Peter Ou, staff at Rice University in Houston, who have faithfully served InterVarsity and are now transi­tioning to new ministry opportunities.

Please pray for:

  • Krista Griffin as she transitions this summer into the roles of team leader and chapter planter at the University of Oregon.
  • Christie Heller De Leon as she begins her role as area director for the Interstate 80 area, supervising staff at California's University of the Pacific in Stockton; University of California—Davis; Sacramento City College; and Sierra College in Roseville.
  • Members of the InterVarsity Christian community and the Hawaiian community as they take time to listen and serve during Ho'olohe Pono, held from July 19 to August 1 on Oahu and on Molokai. Pray for all the participants to experience God's love and build cultural bridges as they work and fellowship together.
  • People to join the InterVarsity staff teams in Maine, Vermont, and western Massachusetts, ministering to students and sharing God's love within the campus communities.
  • Greg Jao, regional director for New York/New Jersey, as he leads students in Scripture study during the Great Lakes regions' Leadership Institute, held July 21-24 at Cedar Campus, an InterVarsity training facility in Michigan.

July 26 - Aug. 1

Thank God for:

  • Cheryl Black, campus volunteer, who leads a growing ministry reaching hundreds of international students with the Gospel at Oregon State University—Corvallis.
  • The churches, alumni, and faculty who have expressed support and encouraged the establishment of an InterVarsity chapter at California State University—Long Beach.

Please pray for:

  • Jason and Andrea Huang as they lead students at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania and seek to establish an InterVarsity chapter among Asian American students.
  • Shaylen Jackson as she transitions from serving students at Western Michigan University—Kalamazoo, to expanding the black campus ministry this fall at Michigan State University—East Lansing.
  • InterVarsity students and leaders to experience God's grace and blessings as they serve and share the Gospel this summer during Global and Urban Projects.
  • Students to continue studying God's Word and deep­ening their relationships with Jesus Christ this summer even as they are away from campus fellowship.
  • New staff members in Kentucky: Jess Steere at Berea College; Woody Pryor at the University of Kentucky—Lexington; and Robert Thompson at the University of Louisville, to trust God's provision and remain diligent as they seek to complete their fund development in order to minister to students on campuses in the fall.

August 2-8

Please pray for:

  • Daniel Soderberg, area director in western New York, as he works with his staff team in coordinating Kingdom Bound, a concert outreach event to over 50,000 teenagers. Also pray that participants experience God's love as they watch videos, attend daily seminars for youth pastors and parents, and meet InterVarsity students and staff.
  • Three full-time staff members and four ministry interns as they prepare to lead the ministry on area campuses during the Silicon Coast Area Retreat August 2-7.
  • Participants to be encouraged and challenged as they study God's Word during a faculty and alumni conference at InterVarsity's training center on California's Catalina Island Campus by the Sea August 2-7.
  • Staff in the Rocky Mountain region to experience rest and refreshment as they gather August 2-7 at Bear Trap Ranch, an InterVarsity training facility in Colorado, and plan for the coming year of ministry.
  • John Hanna, area director, and the members of the Western Carolinas team as they meet August 3-6 to prepare for the 2009-2010 school year of ministry.
  • Members of the Great Lakes East regional staff team to grow in understanding and practice of developing vibrant witnessing communities on new campuses. Pray staff would experience refreshing worship and prayer ministry as they gather for their Regional Staff Conference August 4-6.
  • Staff and volunteers of the University of Kansas International Friends chapter to boldly proclaim the Gospel as throughout the summer months they serve hundreds of international students staying in Lawrence.

Aug 9-15

Thank God for:

  • Staff in the New England region establishing prayer and spiritual formation into their lives over the last five years. Also thank God that staff are growing in humility, faith, and boldness; praying with vision and expectant faith; and planting new chapters which results in more students professing faith in Jesus.

Please pray for:

  • Students and staff in the Blue Ridge region as they host many New Student Outreach events and have spiritual conversations with thousands of freshmen in the coming weeks. Pray that many new students, both Christian and non-Christian, join the InterVarsity community on campus.
  • Fifteen campus interns in the Great Lakes East region as they receive training and celebrate God's provision August 14-15 in Ann Arbor, MI, and Cleveland.
  • Barney Lin, Jenny Fung, and Mike Yeh as they raise support this summer to share God's love with Asian American fellowships on campuses in Chicago.
  • Troy Turley, new Pacific regional director, as he leads this year and also serves as the interim area director for the Silicon Coast area. Also pray for wisdom and God's direction as the team seeks a new area director.
  • Participants in the New York/New Jersey Regional Staff Conference, August 10-13, to seek God's guidance as they make plans to see over 300 students come to faith annually and 1,000 students join their fellowships within the next three years.
  • Staff members in North Texas and Oklahoma as they meet August 10-13 to prepare for a new year and discuss ideas for increasing their evangelism efforts.

Aug 16-22

Thank God for:

  • Students' safety this summer while traveling and participating in global and domestic missions trips.

Please pray for:

  • The 60 InterVarsity staff from the United States and Canada as they study and seek to meet God in Scripture in preparation for leading manuscript Bible studies in John 1-4 during Urbana 09.
  • InterVarsity students and staff at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL; Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, IN; University of Illinois—Chicago; Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago; and Valparaiso University in Indiana; to boldly share the gospel as they meet new freshman during their New Student Outreach events.
  • Hallie Cowan, assistant regional director for spiritual direction and prayer in New England, to seek God's wisdom as she adjusts her travel plans due to her recent allergies to corn derivatives. Also pray for her complete healing.
  • Mary Carrera, team leader, as she develops trust with students at San Jose State University in California. Also pray that more students accept Christ into their lives as the ministry grows.
  • Graduate & Faculty Ministries staff serving members of campus communities in the western United States to be encouraged in their work and pray that new people would join InterVarsity graduate staff.
  • Non-Christian international students in Kentucky at the University of Louisville, the University of Kentucky—Lexington, and Murray State University as they encounter Jesus through Scripture study.

Aug 23-31

Thank God for:

  • Growth in the New York/New Jersey region by over 500 students. Also praise God that 217 students accepted Christ into their lives during the 2008-2009 school year.
  • Over 220 students accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior on campuses throughout the New England region this past school year.

Please pray for:

  • New InterVarsity Link staff to trust God's provision as they raise support and develop relationships with students to begin their ministries with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students around the world.
  • William Campbell and Dave Foster, campus staff members, to seek God's guidance as they minister to art students and prepare New Student Outreach activities for campuses in downtown Chicago.
  • InterVarsity students at the University of Louisville in Kentucky as they boldly invite newcomers to New Student Outreach events on campus and into the fellowship.
  • Students on campuses across the nation as they begin the 2009-2010 school year. Pray that they make wise decisions as they choose what extracurricular activities to participate in as well as choose their majors and programs of study.
  • Students participating in Bible studies on campuses nationwide to be open to the truth of God's Word, develop Christ-like character, and embrace Jesus as Lord and Savior.
