Jan. 1-10

Thank God for:

  • Thirty-six non-Christian students who attended Cross Training 2008, the fall conference for students in WI. Ten students made first-time commitments to Christ and 23 Bible studies for non-Christians have begun.
  • Several students who accepted Christ into their lives during the Hierarchy of Needs outreach at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, last October. More than 80 students heard the Gospel in fraternity and sorority houses and another 60-70 engaged in conversations with Greek InterVarsity students on the campus mall.
  • People who faithfully pray and generously give their financial resources to InterVarsity Link to allow students and faculty worldwide to hear the Gospel of Christ.

Please pray for:

  • Seventy InterVarsity/USA and Inter-Varsity of Canada staff to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying as they study the Gospel of John throughout the coming months in preparation for teaching Bible studies during Urbana 09.
  • Christie Heller DeLeon to have rich times with her family and time for rest as she finishes the last two months of her sabbatical and returns to ministering to students in CA.
  • Nick Johnson, area director, as he begins an educational sabbatical in January. Pray for focus in his Intercultural Studies major, and clarity for next steps for his family.
  • Students and staff from WI, as they share the Gospel and serve in Ireland January 4-14. Pray for safe travel and for the participants to seek God's guidance as they work to encourage Catholic and Protestant reconciliation.

Jan. 11-17

Please pray for:

  • Robin Capcara and Michael Gehrling, new Graduate & Faculty Ministries staff, to meet graduate students and faculty with open hearts for Christ's mission and seek to establish new chapters at the University of Pittsburgh in PA, and Carnegie Mellon University, also in Pittsburgh.
  • Brandon Shrock, campus staff, and volunteers Kelly and Rita Moore, as they lead the InterVarsity chapter at Ball State University in Muncie, IN; in caring for new freshmen and developing deeper relationships within the campus community.
  • Students as they return from South Africa on January 14 to incorporate what God has taught them through their service into their daily interactions with friends and classmates on campuses across the nation.
  • Candidates to respond to God's call and join InterVarsity staff, sharing the Gospel and serving students at the University of San Francisco in CA.
  • Staff members on campuses in New York to trust God's provision and remain diligent as they seek prayer and financial partners to sustain their campus ministries.
  • Twenty people to respond to God's call and join InterVarsity Link staff, serving the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students worldwide.
  • Jackie Cottle, Stephanie Clark-Bennett and Shannon Spaulding, campus interns in the northern CA area, as they seek prayer and financial partnership in order to minister full-time with students.

Jan 18-24

Thank God for:

  • More than 60 students from Sonoma State University in CA expressing interest in serving others and sharing the love of Christ through summer missions projects.

Please pray for:

  • Andrea and Jason Huang to experience a smooth transition as they move to Pittsburgh, PA, this winter to establish an Asian American InterVarsity chapter at the University of Pittsburgh and at Carnegie Mellon University.
  • Students on campuses in Long Island, NY, to make life-changing decisions to follow Christ this school year.
  • Area directors in the Pacific Region to seek God's guidance and learn what He has to teach them during their establishing new chapters training January 20-21.
  • Candidates to join InterVarsity staff as area directors in the Great Lakes West Region and as campus staff members in the Midwest.
  • Vince Miller, staff director in the Metro Twin Cities MN area, as he seeks prayer and financial partnership in order to continue his ministry to staff and students.
  • Seniors from campuses in the Baltimore and Western Maryland area as they begin their final semester. Pray that they will seek God's direction and trust him with their futures as they search for jobs and transition to life after college.

Jan. 25-31

Thank God for:

  • Students at San Francisco State University and Sonoma State University in CA who are considering joining InterVarsity staff and sharing the Gospel of Christ on campus.
  • InterVarsity staff Collette Michal and the many International students at the University of North Dakota—Fargo who gather at The Pink House for a meal and host English conversation practice on Friday evenings.

Please pray for:

  • The right candidate to join InterVarsity staff in the New England Region in ministering to graduate students and faculty. Pray for diligence and encouragement as current staff seek financial support to sustain current work and establish new chapters on area campuses.
  • Leaders and students of the Christian campus organizations to boldly share how the Good News of Jesus Christ embraces the vital need of the world's food crisis as they partner with non-Christian groups during their awareness outreach at the University of Pittsburgh in PA.
  • Kurt and Laura Thiel, CA area staff, as they seek God's guidance in training their staff January 27-February 1.
  • The right candidate to accept the position as InterVarsity's area director in North Texas and Oklahoma, the Red River Region's fastest growing area.
  • Students from campuses in the North Central Region to deepen relationships with God and each other as they gather to study God's Word and worship together during the Break Away 09 conference January 30-February 1.

Feb 1-7

Thank God for:

  • More than 30 students accepting Christ into their lives on campuses in the New York area.
  • Eighteen students at Texas Tech University in Lubbock accepting Christ into their lives over the past 15 months. The InterVarsity campus chapter has almost doubled in size to nearly 100 students.

Please pray for:

  • Students attending Cornerstone 2009, the Western Carolinas area conference, held February 6-8 in Black Mountain, NC, to grow in their love for God through studying His Word and pray that their daily lives will be transformed as they meet God in Scripture.
  • Seventy-five students from campuses in the North Coast area to deepen their relationships with God and each other as they gather February 6-8 in Santa Rosa, CA, to study God's Word and worship during a Disciples on Campus conference.
  • The team of 15 students from Indiana University— Purdue University Fort Wayne to trust God's provision as they raise prayer support and funds for their trip this March to serve residents and share the Gospel of Christ in Haiti.
  • InterVarsity ministry house directors as they establish a second Christian community home for students in the Twin Cities area. Also pray for developing relationships among the residents.
  • Campus staff and small group leaders at the University of Delaware in Newark to boldly share the Gospel, welcome students into their fellowships, and invite them into relationships with Jesus Christ throughout the winter session.

Dec 8-14

Thank God for:

  • Students and staff in New York who are deepening their relationships with God through prayer.
  • Students at York College in PA, who are sharing their testimonies of God's work in their lives with their peers on campus.

Please pray for:

  • Students participating in the multiethnic ministry at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, to continue growing in their love for God and each other as they meet for Bible study, prayer, and weekly fellowship.
  • Students from San Francisco State University, the University of San Francisco, and Sonoma State University, all in CA, to boldly invite their non-Christian friends on campus to study God's Word through Groups Investigating God, Bible studies for non-Christians.
  • Students on campuses in Texas and Oklahoma to deepen relationships with God and each other as they study Scripture, worship, and enjoy fellowship together during the Breakthrough conference February 13-15.
  • New staff at the University of Delaware in Newark: Colleen Walsh, Ryan Moyer, Billy Haines, Greg Baker, and Chris Norman, as they seek prayer and financial partnership in order to minster full-time to students.
  • Students across the country to invite their friends on campus to join Groups Investigating God, Bible studies for non-Christians, and share the love of Christ on campus.

Feb 15-21

Thank God for:

  • InterVarsity Link staff Bryan and Tammy Williams, and their children Samuel and Ruthie, as they continue to serve the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students in East Asia.
  • The four non-Christian students who have begun learning about Jesus and attending a Bible discussion group at Alvernia University in Reading, PA.

Please pray for:

  • Deep South Area Director Bill DePury, and his wife Wendy, to seek God's guidance and wisdom as spouses and parents. Also pray that their children will have soft hearts for the Lord.
  • Philip, Victor, Ryan, Dan, and Noe as they volunteer their time and energy in ministering to students in the North Coast area in CA. Pray they would seek God's guidance as they discern whether to join InterVarsity staff full-time.
  • Student leaders on campuses across Iowa as they share the life-giving Word of God and work to establish Groups Investigating God, Bible studies for non-Christians, among their friends on campus.
  • National leaders of InterVarsity to seek God's direction as they gather in Austin, TX, February 19-21 and discuss future ministry plans.
  • Students to actively participate in InterVarsity's small group Bible studies on campuses across the country and seek to grow in love for God, God's Word, and God's purposes throughout the world.

Feb 22-28

Thank God for:

  • Growth in InterVarsity's campus ministry in the Long Island, NY, area, including the affiliation of a new chapter at the United States Marine Academy.
  • Thirty new Christians on campuses around the Red River Region.

Please pray for:

  • Bobby Gross, national field director for the Southern and Central U.S., as he leads the Collegiate Ministries Leadership Team February 23-24 in evaluating applicants for the 20 open positions for the July 2009 National Chapter Planters Cohort.
  • Staff in the Red River Region as they interview and make hiring decisions to fill open staff positions February 24-27.
  • Students from the undergraduate and Greek InterVarsity chapters at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, as they prepare to share the Gospel during the Chicago Urban Plunge and serve in relief efforts building a Habitat for Humanity home in New Orleans during Spring Break in March.
  • Candidates to seek God's vision and join InterVarsity staff in serving and sharing Christ’s love at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and Central College in Pella, IA.
  • InterVarsity Link staff members to trust in God's provision while they are back in the United States seeking to raise funds and prayer support in order to return to full-time ministry in the countries where they are serving.
