InterVarsity Press Named One of the Best Christian Places to Work

  March 15, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Westmont, IL)—InterVarsity Press was once again named one of the Best Christian Places to Work by the Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI). The finalists for 2007 were announced yesterday at the Christian Management Association Conference in Palm Springs, California.

The survey, administered by BCWI, a research-based organizational and human resources consulting firm based on Mercer Island, Washington, involved more than 11,000 employees in 93 organizations across the United States to identify great workplaces with a Christian mission and/or values. The top 40 survey finalists will be listed on ChristianityToday.com.

“This honor is a tremendous tribute to everyone at InterVarsity Press who all work hard with great creativity and commitment,” said publisher Bob Fryling. “Probably my greatest satisfaction is that three of the highest marks we received were in the areas of commitment to our purposes and values, spiritual growth at IVP, and pride in the books we publish.”

In response to the question “What are the specific things about IVP that make it a great workplace?” one person commented, “There is a passion for truth and its engagement with the wider culture,” while another added, “People genuinely care for one another and enjoy each other.” Several others just said “The people!”

“Based on survey results, Best Christian Workplaces in the U.S. demonstrate high levels of employee engagement,” says Al Lopus, president of BCWI. “This engagement translates into growing performance outcomes positively benefiting the quality of our global society. Leaders in these workplaces are engaging their people by enabling personal growth and building responsive and adaptable organizations while meeting their employees´ expectations for character, competence and transparency.”

Founded in 1947 as an extension of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, InterVarsity Press serves those in the university, the church and the world by publishing thoughtful Christian books that equip and encourage people to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of life.
