Step Out of the
Box this Summer!

What is summer to you? Time to relax and take it easy? Time to work hard to pile up the bucks for next fall’s tuition? Why not see it as a time to change your pace and try something new? Here’s a hodgepodge of ideas to consider:

• Take a trip to somewhere you’ve never been. InterVarsity’s Global or Urban Projects are options.
   
• Browse the Bible. Try a summer-long read-through of the entire Bible. You can do it by reading just 10–15 pages a day.
   
• Slip into silence. Take a road trip to a quiet state park for a retreat of silence. Or embark on a solo canoe trip for several days.
   
• Kill your TV. Watch some classic movies instead. Better yet, catch up on your reading.
   
• Pen, meet paper. Check for incoming e-mail, but try replying to some in pen and ink on paper.
   
• Dig deeper. Got a job? Commit a day’s wage each month to your staff worker, your local chapter or other good cause. On that day, pray for the person or group.
   
• Meet with a mentor. Set up a weekly meeting with an older, wiser person whom you respect. Consider choosing a godly person in your field of study.
   
• Chill with children. Help out with Vacation Bible School or an inner-city day camp program.
