The term "lifestyle" describes the attitudes, behaviors, and expectations you have toward the life you lead. Similarly, the attitudes, behaviors, and expectations you have about your work could be termed your "workstyle." Paul highlights five key areas of a Christlike workstyle in Titus 2:9-10. Think of the job you hold (or will hold this summer). How does your workstyle compare? (See the paragraphs below.) According to verse 10, there's a purpose behind this godly workstyle: "that [workers] may adorn the doctrines of God our Savior in all things." Your attitudes and actions on the job can make the gospel of Christ attractive to coworkers and customers. What impression are you making?

Characteristics of a godly workstyle (Titus 2:9-10):

"Obedient to their own masters" (Authority)
Do you . . .
follow instructions?
comply with industry standards?
pay your fair share of taxes?

"Well pleasing in all things" (Excellence)
Do you . . .
take pride in your work?
use the right tools for the job, in the right way?
work just as hard even when the boss isn't around?

"Not answering back" (Conflict)
Do you . . .
seek to resolve conflicts in a healthy way?
respond with honesty and courtesy?
promote constructive cooperation instead of destructive competition?

"Not pilfering" (Honesty and Integrity)
Do you . . .
keep an honest accounting of your hours?
pay for personal expenses rather than charge them to company expense accounts?
avoid making personal long-distance calls on the company's phone?

"Showing all good fidelity" (Loyalty and Dependability)
Do you . . .
keep your word?
do what it takes to meet deadlines?
honor what your company stands for?
