FAQ
What's Student Leadership journal? Student Leadership journal (SLJ) was a publication for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter leaders and staff published in printed form from 1988 to 2005. The content is also published on the Web at this site. This site will remain active, even though we have ceased printed publication. Check back for new material and for older archival material (2000 and before) as it gets moved from the old site.
What's up with the printed version? The Fall 2005 issue is the last printed issue. The SLJ editorial team has been asked to take on a new Campus Web Initiative — a project aimed at broadening InterVarsity's resource offerings to a larger audience. We can't take on a new web project and also print the journal; time and money just aren't there. We think you'll really like the new web ministry! You can learn more and take a poll at www.campuspoll.org.
What kind of material do SLJ issues contain? There are usually three or more feature articles in each issue. These may cover areas of leadership, personal and spiritual growth, and issues relevant to campus culture. The department "Spotlight" garners cultural observations, quotes and trends from various authors and publications. "Chapter Strategy" and "Chapter Network" include stories, case studies and ideas that chapters can learn from and incorporate into the life of their group on campus. SLJ usually closes with Leader to Leader, a place for student leaders and staff to write broadly about life as a Christian leader. Poetry and quotes appear on the back cover and are often scattered throughout the body of the magazine.
What if I want to ask a question or comment on an SLJ article? If you have comments or questions, you can navigate to "Contact SLJ" on the left navigation bar and submit your message there. You will also be able to submit comments for editorial consideration that will appear at the end of some of the newer or more popular articles for a limited time.
Do you still take articles? How do I submit an article to Student Leadership for web publication? Got a story to tell, or an article in mind? We welcome your submission for editorial consideration. We may use it here, or consider it for our new Campus Web Initiative (see more at www.campuspoll.org). Navigate to "Submit an article" on the left navigation bar and read the Author FAQ. You can submit your article from a link on that page.
Can I reprint and distribute these wonderful articles? InterVarsity-related students and staff may copy and distribute up to 100 copies of an article without asking for further permission, provided the full author and copyright information are retained, as well as the publication date. All others are encouraged to write for permission. NOTE: No articles may be reprinted in another publication or posted as independent articles (i.e. more than a link) without express permission. Contact us with your request.
Can we put SLJ stuff on our Web site? Consider setting up a feed to your site using RSS. RSS allows your Web site to receive a feed of current stories that is updated automatically as the stories and articles are changed on our site. This is great for InterVarsity chapter Web sites and Christian colleges! To learn more, follow the "SLJ in RSS" link on the left. Otherwise you're welcome to link to our content.
Okay, so what's the secret of this fine, award-winning publication? Well, we'd like to say it's the fantastic editorial team, but that would be stretching it! So here's the scoop: First, God seems to be blessing this publication and using it in the lives of both students and non-students. Second, God's own work on campus produces amazing stories of his grace and love. There are many stories to tell! Third, students and field staff, as well as readers like you, partner with God in building his Kingdom and long to see good content put into a form that can be shared with others. So it comes down to God's grace and people like you. It's really that simple.
How do you get your money cover costs? Our budget is supported by a combination of several sources that include fund raising efforts and some overhead allocation from InterVarsity's operational budget. If you're interested in helping out with a gift, feel free to contact us using the "Contact SLJ" link on the left.
