A giant
sign on the UCLA (CA) campus announced, "Free Back
Massage." Students leaving class last February quickly
started lining up behind the six chairs near the giant UCLA
Bear on Bruin Walk. Ahh . . . a backrub! The lines got
longer and longer. The sponsor of the free back massages was a group of I-V students from another campus, UC - Redlands. They were at UCLA looking for natural ways to talk to others about their faith. By giving free back massages, they had ample time to share while serving in a practical way. But they weren't expecting such an overwhelming response to their offer. Almost everyone asked, "Why are you doing this?" The InterVarsity students responded, "Jesus has served us and we are learning to serve others." Many conversations developed as tense muscles relaxed under the kneading knuckles of the Christian students. For the dozen Redlands students, it was another example of how God could use them as his witnesses. Their experience was so positive that they again offered free backrubs back on their own campus. After all, they had learned a lot about how to give someone a good back massage -- and how to talk about Jesus, too. |
