Invitation to Community

God has been blessing the InterVarsity chapter at the University of California–San Diego. Every year for the last six years, more students have become Christians than the year before. This year the chapter saw over 100 conversions.
The evangelism model that the chapter uses is based on relationships. San Diego InterVarsity students and new believers alike recognize the importance of a welcoming community. No conversions happen without Christians living out the gospel and demonstrating Christ’s love on campus.
Evangelism has become a way of life for these InterVarsity students. At the conclusion of almost every San Diego chapter meeting, students invite non-christians to accept Christ. During the first Large Group meeting in the 2007-2008 academic year, 86 students became Christians.
InterVarsity staff have encouraged a culture of witness – nurturing in students a hunger for prayer, evangelism, and compassionate action. Instead of seeing each aspect of witness as separate from one another, students are learning that all three aspects are best when interwoven.
Patrick, an InterVarsity student, exemplifies the persistence our staff encourage. For about a year, Patrick prayed for his friend Kevin and often invited him to Large Group meetings. Kevin eventually decided to attend a meeting, and that very night he accepted Jesus. Now, Kevin is an active member of the InterVarsity chapter and is thankful for friends like Patrick who persevered in reaching out to him.
