A Day in the Life of a Case Student
Morning, Freshman Dorm
Latino Music on Alarm
White roommate wakes up
W: “Hey dude, can you turn that music down?”
Inner Monologue: “I’m sick of this taco-bell burrito/fajita music”
H: “No problem, Gringo.”
White roomie laughs uncomfortably
Gets out of bed
end scene
International student enters bathroom, Black woman is straightening hair,
white girl does makeup next to her
I: Is something burning? Are you okay? (broken English)
B: Yeh, I’m fine.. just doing my hair.
Inner Monologue: I’m sick of answering that question. she can’t even
speak English anyway
International girl goes to bathroom, comes out, throws TP in trash, walks
to door
W: Hey, did you hear.
I:- inner monologue- I thought lots of people do that. everyone does that
where I’m from. Americans are so ignorant to other cultures.
Exits
Afternoon
Students exit classroom- put down desks
– 3 students gather- Black woman, Iranian woman, White male complain
about difficulty of test
– Black female: “I can’t even understand a word out of Ali Baba’s
mouth!”
– Iranian woman laughs quietly
o Inner Monologue: “Ali Baba? I’ll bet you wouldn’t get on an
airplane with him.”
– White male: “Let’s go to Bag it- I’m starving”
In nord, on couches, boyfriend sneaks up behind Black woman – gives her a
kiss on the cheek- they hold hands- Hispanic male with BW’s asian boyfriend
– BW: You wouldn’t believe what happened to me in class, again.
(explains scenario where teacher calls on her to be black expert)
– White male shakes head, inner monologue: “what’s the big deal,
shouldn’t she know Black history anyways?”
– Hispanic male: “Hey, did you start the Calc homework yet?”
– Asian male: “Yeh. but I didn’t really get it”
– Hispanic: Come on, man, I thought you Asians were supposed to be
smart..!
– Asian: Laughs
– Hispanic: Well, if you don’t know, I need to go find an SI. I’m out of
here
– White male: Yeah, I should go too (Puzzled look on face)
– Couple remains- roll eyes at others
Gym in the Village
Asian and Black guy working out together lifting- Black gets off of
machine, Asian tries to lift, has to take off weights
Asian: Woah man, I’ve gotta take some of these off you’re way too strong
for me, I’m just a skinny Asian guy
-Black man: C’mon, man, I worked for this! That’s all you have to do, too.

Indian/White women pass by, give smiles to Black/Asian guys Indian girls
says, “Hi- (name)” to African male
African: Oo! Man, she’s cute. but an Indian girl and a black guy. I don’t
know about that. – Asian: Why don’t you go talk to her? – Ad lib- continue to work out
-Girls stretch
-Indian girl: (Name) is so cute. I wish he’d ask me to snowball.
-White girl: Did you see that Asian guy was ripped!
-White girl trips while stretching
-Indian girl: HAHAH! Was that a blonde moment?
-White girls laughs, smirks
Dinner @ Leutner
Everyone in the skit sits at one table, all black people sit at other table
Black table
Black male 2: Look at (name of black guy) sitting with the United Nations
over there. does he even know he’s black?
Rest of the table laughs
Get trays, sit down
White male: I don’t want to come off as a racist, but I’m curious why do
all the black people sit together? (to Black male)
Black guy quiet for a minute- about to answer
-Hispanic: I’m not sure if (name of black male) is the right person to ask.
he’s pretty much white anyways.
-table laughs
