Ministry Reflection
Based on Images of Leadership: Shepherd, by Rich Lamb
God as Shepherd
Good shepherding begins with God as our shepherd
Reference: Psalm 23, John 10
With God as our shepherd, He promises.
.Abundance
What are ways God has provided for you in abundance this school year?
Were there areas in your life that you felt a lacking?
Take a moment to talk with God. Ask why there might have been some areas
where you felt a lack. Write down what you hear.
.Security
What were some of the most difficult times for you this year? (Valleys)
How did God protect you or comfort you in those difficult times?
What were ways you felt unprotected or alone?
If there were ways you felt unprotected or alone, this may be a good time
to ask God where He was in the midst of those difficulties. Write down
what you hear.
.Intimacy
What are ways you got to know God better this year? Please list any
characteristics of God you learned about or were able to understand more
deeply.
What did God teach you about yourself this year?
If you felt like your ministry was not founded in relationship with God,
this may be a good time to repent for ways you forgot Him. After
repenting, spend a moment receiving forgiveness and affirmations from God.
Please write down any repentances and truths that you’ve received.
God Appoints Shepherds: Feeding His Sheep
Reference: Ezekiel 34:1-16, John 21:15-19
Take a moment to review the descriptions of good and bad shepherding (pp.
11-13).
Being honest, what were some bad shepherding tactics that you were tempted
to use this year? What were some of the consequences of bad shepherding
that might have appeared in you ministry?
The Amateur is the description of the good shepherd, someone whose ministry
is founded in love for God and for the sheep. What were ways you chose to
be a good shepherd? (List moments where you chose to act out of love
rather than self-serving interests.)
Shepherds Appoint Shepherds
Reference: Acts 20:17-38, 1 Peter 5:1-4
Before Paul left Ephesus for the last time, he made sure to equip the
church there to be shepherds. What are things you have tried to equip your
sheep with so that they might be shepherds after you? What are the ways
you have modeled out good shepherding?
As the year ends, what would it look like to “end well”? What is the main
message you want to leave with your sheep so that they can carry it on
wherever they go?
Take a moment to pray and write down anything you would ask of God for
these final weeks of school. Ask for specific things you would like God to
do.
