The Need for Space with God
InterVarsity Staff are called to help students grow in their relationships
with Jesus. Learning to care for the spiritual and emotional needs of
others can be a very rewarding experience. It can also be draining. It is
not unusual for spiritual caregivers to give at the expense of their own
relationship with God. The needs of our fellow workers and those we serve
press in on our lives. We get tired and become susceptible to temptation
and depression. Sometimes IVCF staff need help in making space for God. The
Southern California regional office would like to help.
Retreat Days
We would like to offer any interested IVCF staff in the Greater Los Angeles
Division an opportunity to spend a day with Jesus each month. We will
provide the following at our expense:
Location: We will arrange and pay for a day pass at a public garden or
retreat center in the Greater Los Angeles area. This year one third of the
retreats will be in Orange County.
Lunch: A box lunch will be provided.
Retreat Guide: Staff will be invited to gather at 11:00 am at the retreat
location. A box lunch and optional retreat materials will be distributed. A
brief liturgy of welcome will be given and staff will then be sent off on
their own. At 4:15pm, staff will be invited to meet with a prayer partner
to share reflections of the day. We will conclude at 5pm with a group
prayer of thanksgiving.
Longer Retreat Option
Jon and Jen Ball have invited Doug and Marilyn Stewart to lead a Spiritual
Formation retreat for a couple of days in February. In addition the
regional office will offer a two day retreat at Prince of Peace Abby at
Valyermo in April.
Steve Stuckey will be available to chat and pray with anyone who would like
to do so.

Registration
An email reminder will be sent to all staff one week before the event.
Staff who want to participate will be asked to reply by email two days
before the event so that reservations can be made and lunches ordered.
Bonus Offer
Any staff member who participates in at least five of the retreat days will
be eligible to receive one overnight at the Serra Retreat Center in Malibu,
Prince of Peace Abby in Oceanside or St. Andrews Abby in Valyermo paid for
by the regional office. You may take these days in June, July, or August.
