1. Review what was Habakkuk’s original complaint against God in chapter 1.
a. What questions about God’s character lay at the root of those
complaints?
2. Read Habakkuk 3
3. Looking specifically at verse 2, what is Habakkuk asking God to do?
a. How has God changed Habakkuk’s understanding of the following from
when he started to pray in verses 1:2-4?
i) *God’s timing
ii) *God’s justice
iii) *Prayer
4. Compare and contrast in verses 3-16 how nature metaphorically reacts to
God’s greatness and presence with that of God’s enemies (especially in
verse 7).
5. What is similar about Habakkuk’s reactions to God in vs. 16-19 and the
reaction of God’s enemies? What is different?
6. How does Habakkuk describe God’s intentions toward His people in this
chapter?
a. Why does Habakkuk tremble at the thought of God’s wrath?
b. What is the source of God’s wrath and who is it directed against
here?
7. What is your reaction to God’s holiness in Scripture?
a. What hinders you from being gripped by God’s holiness?
8. What prevents you from regularly praying for God to move against evil in
our world?
a. Why should we be cautious, like Habakkuk was in saying “in wrath
remember mercy”, as we pray for God to move against evil?
9. What is Habakkuk’s conclusion about Israel’s situation and God’s
justice?
a. In what ways has Habakkuk’s situation gone unchanged?
b. How has God changed Habakkuk?
10. What evil do you presently find besetting God’s people or you as an
individual?
a. What have you learned from Habakkuk that can sustain you and give
you joy in the midst of these trials?
11. Close by thanking God that He is holy.
a. Pray together about things you’ve learned through Habakkuk and ask
God to change the your surrounding community and to change you.
b. Pray that in His love for justice that He would deal with Christians
mercifully.
