Justice week outreach

This week long outreach proclaims God's heart for the voiceless and his redemption available through Jesus. This document outlines why, what, how for a group of students to be a voice for the voiceless inviting them to fast, sponsor children, incorporate scripture, participate in open air demonstrations and proclamation tables.

Week of VOICE November 14-17th
SPIRIT.HOPE.ACTION.VOICE

o SPIRIT.engaged through Prayer/fasting o HOPE.given by Jesus o ACTION.through Child sponsorship o VOICE.for the voiceless

What would it look like to have a week on campus where students engaged
God’s heart by:

. Fasting- prayer bracelets, collective fast on Thursday Nov 17th . Child sponsorship- offered at demonstrations, Bible studies & Common Ground . Scripture – every BSL receives guide to lead BS on Justice . Human Illustrations – demonstrate suffering on campus using live students . Proclamation Tables – set up to explain human demonstration & share gospel . Common Ground with the Voiceless – special meeting for “Educated, Spirit Engaged & Action”

What Impact on our student and campus could we have?

Human Cost: what is being asked of you?
1 hour volunteer commitment at tables (15 students per day)
Buy black T-shirts (painted at Common Ground Nov 10th)
Use BS guide during your Bible study (though all leaders are free to make
the best choice for their small group)
Invited to fast (wear bracelets)
Invited to Movie night (possibly optional Friday night Nov11)

Volunteer sign up:

. Need students to be the VOICE at each demonstration (explain why & share gospel) . demonstrations (5 demonstrators for 1 hour; 2 hours a day), . everyone invited to bring Black t-shirt to paint next Thursday Nov 10th . make prayer bracelets (each BSL takes some for SG) . Need stats on decided issues (prostitution, child hunger & Darfur)

VOICE
Fasting

. Invite students to fast breakfast & lunch on Thursday (Nov 17th) for Justice, . Invite students to wear prayer bracelets to remind them (given at small groups)

Child Sponsorship

. Invite students to sponsor a child through World Vision or New Missions at Demonstrations, Bible studies & Common Ground

Scripture- Staff will give every small group leader a guide to study the
week of the 17th which includes:

. Passage- Matt 25 . Injustice stats . Questions to guide discussion- EDR . Insights/principles to help group understand Jesus identifies with the “voiceless” . Invite students to: demonstrate, fast, give prayer bracelet, sponsor child

Proclamations Stations
Stations designated to proclaim God’s heart for Jesus and God’s love for a
broken people
Staff will produce a Proclamation guide to include:

. Injustice stats on child hunger, Darfur genocide & forced prostitution . Survey to help our students connect good news of Jesus to World Justice & to personal salvation for nonChristians . Short metaphor to connect injustice and gospel of Jesus (ensure to give HOPE to students) . Invite students to “Common Ground with the Voiceless” . Invite students to sponsor a child through World Vision

Demonstrations

. Sign up list at Common Ground . Make t-shirts Nov 10th (paint stats on Black shirts) . Represent different issues (child hunger, Darfur genocide & forced prostitution) o Use pennies to represent lives . Example child hunger: Unravel $12.50 to pour out (1 hours worth of life.the rest of the day is in a bucket (28,500) . Stat sheets to give out . 5-10 students stand silent (1 hour commitment) with T-shirts painted with stats & tape over their mouths to represent those who have no voice. (Blindfolds, Taped mouths & t-shirts with stats) . 1-2 students become the VOICE to give explanation to students who ask for it and share the gospel at the proclamation stations

Common Ground
EDUCATED.SPIRIT ENAGED.ACTION

. Include poetry inspired by Justice or Injustice (Stephen, Rochelle.) . EDUCATED – teach about Darfur, Genocide, give Biblical understanding for Justice (30 minutes) . SPIRIT ENAGED – prayer for Justice around the world, CD music, prayer cards, stats, verses (20 min) . ACTION – computers to sign up on ONE, sign petitions, write letters to senators, call senators, phone script, write letters to pastors, child sponsorship (20 min) . End the night with Worship (Rev 21.it all ends with worship & God making things new!)
There are two roles involved in the Demonstration: 1. Human Illustrations: students who stand blindfolded, taped mouths & black t-shirts 2. VOICES: students who explain demonstration & share gospel to students who are interested.
