Genesis 1:1-27
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, 2 the earth was a formless void
and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the
waters. 3 Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. 4 And God saw that the
light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and
the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
6 And God said, "Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters
from the waters." 7 So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the
dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. 8 God called the dome Sky.
And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
9 And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the
dry land appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were
gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, "Let the
earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear
fruit with the seed in it." And it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding
seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it
was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the
night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, 15 and let them be
lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth." And it was so. 16 God made the
two great lights--the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night--and the
stars. 17 God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth, 18 to rule over the
day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was
good. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
20 And God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly
above the earth across the dome of the sky." 21 So God created the great sea monsters and
every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged
bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful
and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." 23 And there
was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
24 And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping
things and wild animals of the earth of every kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild
animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps
upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good
26 Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let
them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle,
and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the
earth."
27 So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and
female he created them.
Ezekiel 37:1-14
The hand of the LORD came upon me, and he brought me out by the spirit of the LORD and
set me down in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me all around them; there
were very many lying in the valley, and they were very dry. 3 He said to me, "Mortal, can these
bones live?" I answered, "O Lord GOD, you know." 4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these
bones, and say to them: O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. 5 Thus says the Lord
GOD to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. 6 I will lay sinews on
you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you,
and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the LORD."
7 So I prophesied as I had been commanded; and as I prophesied, suddenly there was a noise,
a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. 8 I looked, and there were sinews on
them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them; but there was no breath in
them. 9 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, mortal, and say to the breath:
Thus says the Lord GOD: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain,
that they may live." 10 I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and
they lived, and stood on their feet, a vast multitude.
11 Then he said to me, "Mortal, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, 'Our
bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are cut off completely.' 12 Therefore prophesy,
and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: I am going to open your graves, and bring you up
from your graves, O my people; and I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 And you
shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves, and bring you up from your graves,
O my people. 14 I will put my spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you on your
own soil; then you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken and will act," says the LORD.
Hosea 1:2-8 and chapter 3
When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea, "Go, take for yourself
a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom
by forsaking the LORD." 3 So he went and took Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she
conceived and bore him a son.
4 And the LORD said to him, "Name him Jezreel (which means "God sows"); for in a little
while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the
kingdom of the house of Israel. 5 On that day I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of
Jezreel."
6 She conceived again and bore a daughter. Then the LORD said to him, "Name her
Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer have pity on the house of Israel or forgive them. 7 But I will
have pity on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the LORD their God; I will not save
them by bow, or by sword, or by war, or by horses, or by horsemen." 8 When she had weaned
Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and bore a son. 9 Then the Lord said, "Name him-ammi (which
means "Not my people"), for you are not my people and I am not your God.
3:1 The LORD said to me again, "Go, love a woman who has a lover and is an adulteress, just
as the LORD loves the people of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes."
2 So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer of barley and a measure of wine. 3
And I said to her, "You must remain as mine for many days; you shall not play the whore, you
shall not have intercourse with a man, nor I with you." 4 For the Israelites shall remain many
days without king or prince, without sacrifice or pillar, without ephod or teraphim. 5 Afterward
the Israelites shall return and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; they shall come
in awe to the LORD and to his goodness in the latter days.
