Main Street - Ephesus Ephesus, a major focus of Paul's ministry, was a gateway city of the Roman Empire province of Asia. The photo was taken in 2001. The building at the end of the street is the Library of Celsus, which does not quite date to the time of the Apostle Paul's domicile in Ephesus. But the theater nearby does.  (more info)

On "the righteousness of God" in Romans This brief article seeks to explain what Paul means by "the righteousness of God" in his argument, especially in his letter to the Romans. On Reasons and Believing the Christian Message In this talk I investigate whether it's rational or reasonable to believe the Christian message. Do we need evidence to believe? If not, why not? But if so, what counts as evidence? Who decides? On what basis? I want to address the subject of whether bright, thoughtful people—such as people who teach and study in the universities of the world—people who do not yet believe the Christian message—people such as these, do they have good reason to believe? Hopefully this talk will help Christians better understand these issues as well. For thoughtful Christians, of course, the issue is should they believe what they have believed? This is a little piece of religious epistemology and apologetics.  (more info)

Thinking about Believing People don't just need some new piece of information about Jesus or some more effective or more relevant "plan of salvation." Often the barrier to faith for them is something that comes prior to that. What they need help in is in thinking about how to believe something that is a radically new claim about reality, which is Jesus. This talk (given to Christian faculty) explores biblically how Jesus challenged his contemporaries including the apostle Paul to think outside the box. It then looks at the categories of thought that keep people today at the University from considering the Gospel and how to help them think in new ways. It provides many stories of how this has happened on campus.  (more info)

What Do College Students Think About Religious Pluralism? This is the front section of my doctor of ministry thesis at Princeton Theological Seminary. It includes the abstract and table of contents. This study looked at the perspectives of students from different religious groups and their views of coming together with people of other faiths. This should be especially helpful for those interacting with various religious groups on an interfaith/multifaith basis. The rest of the thesis is available upon request (pvsorrentino@amherst.edu).  (more info)
