The Story of an International Scholar from India
Chong Singsit came from India in the early 1980s from the Univ. of Delhi to start a PhD in the United States. Here is the story of how Christ has affected his life and given him a ministry both in North America and back in India.

The Story of an International Scholar from India
Though born into a Christian
home, I did not know the Lord until later. In 1970 I was confronted with the
claims of Christ in a very personal way from fellow Christian students in
college. About this time I gave up
trying to run my own life. I surrendered to God and accepted Jesus as my
personal Savior and Lord. Later I
found out that my brother and his friends were praying for my salvation.
In 1979 I helped start Bible
Baptist Church, and in 1984 a Christian school, Shalom Academy, in NE
India. Both the church and the
school are going strong. The school has 500 students including a good number
from Hindu backgrounds. Each year we organize VBS in various locations reaching
over 4500 children.
I came to the US for my
graduate work in Genetics and received a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. I worked for the University of Wisconsin
and the University of Georgia for 7 years and published two-dozen papers in
scientific journals. I taught on
both the Jr. College and College levels (Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College,
Pensacola Christian College, and Clearwater Christian College). At present I am doing research for a
biotech company in Memphis, TN. I
also travel and conduct science seminars dealing with evolution and creation
issues.
There are great
opportunities for Christian International Students studying in the US
universities and colleges to impact other internationals on campus for
Christ. Developing friendship with
non-believers and being available when needed is one simple way you can open
one’s heart. Many internationals
long for friendship while being away from home and family. The first few months after arriving in
the US are critical. You can open
your home for ministry such as an investigative Bible study or just for a
meal. Take special holiday events
such as Thanksgiving and Christmas to invite internationals for meals and use
the occasion to present the gospel.
I started an international
students dinner party once a month while in Virginia Tech. The group grew from a mere 10 to 80 in
one year’s time. The activities
included dinner, games and Bible study.
I also saw several students come to Christ and others catch the vision of
reaching other internationals. Some of these friends are still serving the Lord
in reaching college campuses with the gospel. Never underestimate what a willing heart
can do if it is rightfully surrender to the Master’s use!
