Encyclopedia of Cults and New Religions

Here is a mammouth (731 page paperback) summary of 59 of the current religions and cults, by John Ankerberg John Weldon, published in 1999 by Harvest House Publishers, Eugene, OR.

Featured in the title are: "Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormonism, Mind Sciences, Baha'i, Zen, Unitarianism." Though some are only given in outline form, an attempt is made to give the essential teachings with comparisons to or denials of basic Christian teaching.

Though the publisher is complimentary of the thorough research of the authors, at least one reviewer says that the book approaches these religions with a strong conviction that they all are false teachings, that "anything that is not orthodox Christianity (as they define it) is wrong, evil, a cult, etc." So be prepared for looking at these religions and cults solely through the authors' perspectives on them as evangelical Christians.
