Unlike the common misconception in the west that the church in China is in two different communities (the "underground/illegal" and "open/legal" churches), his thoughtful and nuanced article on the Christian community in China describes the Church in China as being made up of five major components each of which differs substantively from the others, but all sharing common Christian beliefs.
