Ginger Moore, ISM Staff at the University of
Louisville: Pray for the six Chinese students who are
not Christians yet and who are attending our Bible study for
international students.
Eric and Kristi Peterson, CI's at University of
Louisville: Pray that 25 International Students become
involved in our Friday night Bible study.
Rick Goetsch, Campus Staff in Eastern Ohio: Pray
that I would continue to have opportunities to share Christ
with the international students I am teaching, especially
"A" from Kuwait. Being here, out of their own culture, is
often the best opportunity for students from "closed"
countries to hear the Gospel.
Ruth Goring, IV Staff at College of DuPage, West
Chicago, IL: Our exec team has added a member: Irada.
Please pray for our student leaders in all their cultural
diversity: Irada (Azerbaijani/Armenian/ Russian); Lewis
(African/American); Greg (Czech/Chinese); Sokhorn
(Cambodian); T.J. (Korean); and Jeremiah (Anglo). We prize
one another and so far have been graced with good
communication.
Dinesh and Rudy, two Hindu friends of Irada, attended a
recent meeting at which our chapter's faculty sponsor, Kent
Richter, addressed the question, "Is Jesus the only way?"
Kent did a masterful job of showing that all religions -
even those that claim to embrace the wisdom of all the
others - have an inevitable element of exclusivity. Like the
good philosopher he is, he left the students with more
questions than answers - but Irada reports that Dinesh and
Rudy came away expressing an interest in coming back to IV
and learning more about Christian beliefs. Please pray for
them and for Irada as she continues to befriend them.
Craig and Shirley Colbert, ISM Staff in Columbia,
MO: Paul & Michelle Teoh received their R-1 visas
(religious workers) in only 30 minutes after applying at the
consulate in Singapore. A major answer to prayer! They and
their three boys have joined us in ministry here this Fall.
Pray for their adjustments to a new culture and that His
Name be glorified among the nations.
Stephanie Sames, ISM Staff at Chapel Hill, NC: Xu,
after reading Psalm 139, commented to the rest of the
students in Bible study that she didn't want anything to do
with God. Even though she was still not sold on His actual
existence, she knew there were things in her life that she
wanted to hide from God! Fear and hesitation to actually
relate to God are recurring themes in my conversations and
with other nonbelievers. "So, you mean God loves in a
permanent, unconditional kind of way??" For the Christians,
following Jesus often becomes a matter of rule keeping and
self-improvement projects that inevitably fail and leave
them miserable. But, in studying Galatians together, Jesus
is setting them free from focusing on themselves and
questioning God's character! Please pray that students learn
to live in light of the good news that Jesus is reconciling
them to the Father and freeing them from all that enslaves
them!
Mike and Annette Karim, ISM Staff in Fresno, CA:
Pray for our small group leaders and those growing as
servants. Many are beginning to invite others from their
dorms to the Friday Night Fellowship. Pray the Lord will
draw those that He wants at our meeting. Pray for the
drivers and the conversations that happen on the drive home
with friends. We are studying from Matthew 18:21-35, and
many of our students come from divorced families so
forgiveness has become a very important issue for them.
Terrell and Mary Smith, ISM Staff in Madison, WI:
Pray for our "International Soup" meeting every
Wednesday, that we'll have good conversations and great
Bible studies. Pray for good attendance and receptive
hearts. Pray especially for Xu, Lili, Bing, Anu, Xi, and Mi,
who are close to making a decision for Christ.
We're showing the Jesus film in various languages on
campus, with very positive results. A number of our
international friends and contacts have come. Eleven said
they prayed to receive Christ! They may not have fully
understood, but God certainly is working in their hearts!
They're coming to visit our group to ask questions and learn
more about Jesus, they've accepted our gift copies of the
Jesus video, and many asked for Bibles. Praise God! Pray for
God's work in these students, and for us as we follow them
up.
Irene F. Eng, ISM Staff in Providence, RI: Harold,
a junior from Taiwan, decided that he needed Jesus in his
life and prayed with friends to begin a relationship with
God. Last spring, a friend invited Harold to our fellowship
after which he came weekly, including Chapter Camp with us
in May. Harold has been struggling in his academic and
personal life. Please pray for Harold as he begins his
Christian life, especially that God would heal his broken
areas.
Mlen-Too & Patricia Wesley, ISM Staff in
Kalamazoo, MI: "Q," the wife of a Chinese student, told
Pat that she was a Buddhist, but she still wanted to come
and see what was happening at Kanley. "We love Buddhists;
please join us every Sunday."
She hasn't missed a service in months. Patricia met with
Q at least twice a week for English conversation, to cook,
or visit. They openly talked about faith, marriage,
homesickness, Buddha, and Jesus as Q studied the Book of
John from the Chinese-English Bible we gave her.
We were saddened when Q decided to move to another state
to be with in-laws. Patricia wept as she wondered how Q
would continue to hear the Gospel. Three days ago, Q called
Patricia to say farewell and to say that the Holy Spirit had
been moving not just in her heart but in her husband's as
well. In the presence of two female students, Patricia
presented the Gospel one-on-one to Q. It was a moving
experience when Patricia led Q through the sinner's prayer
as she turned away from Buddha and accepted Jesus Christ
into her life. Pray for Q, now a new believer, that God may
send her new believing friends and a church where she is
moving. Pray also that the two girls who saw this woman come
to Christ may also go out and lead others to Jesus. Pray for
Q's husband, who remains here to study, that he may be open
to the Gospel. Pray also for their little girl.
Jean and Joy Hultgren, ISM Staff in Fresno, CA:
During our trip to Japan last August, we met with Toshi, a
girl who became a Christian before returning to her family
in Japan last year. We also met with Hiroshi, who studied
the Bible faithfully for a year here in Fresno before he
returned to Japan last year. Please pray for Toshi to get
plugged into a good church and find a Christian friend who
can be a support to her as she learns what it means to be a
Christian in a very conforming, Buddhist country. And, pray
Hiroshi will have boldness to confess his faith with his
mouth and find good Christian fellowship in Japan.
Steve Edwards, ISM Staff in Blacksburg, VA: Please
pray that God would water the seeds that have been sown this
semester and for new international believers to join us in
outreach next fall. Also, pray for unity and courage as we
seek ways to love and serve internationals together. Ask God
to place Christian graduate students in strategic locations
with vision to see the harvest fields before them.
