Candidates and Placement

Candidates must demonstrate well-developed spiritual discipline habits, spiritual maturity, an ongoing and vital interest in continuing spiritual and personal growth, and have enough energy and time to give to the job. They must have strong management and pastoral skills that permit them to manage teams, supervise campus staff and handle projects.

Some specific traits include:

  • Initiative taking
  • Analytical abilities
  • Problem solving
  • Good listening skills
  • Good pastoral skills
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Collaboration with others
  • An ability and willingness to follow the vision and direction of the line supervisor

Interim Ministry Associates come from a variety of places including:

  • Current and former InterVarsity staff
  • Friends of InterVarsity
  • Former InterVarsity students
  • Faculty/pastors
  • Alumni (former participants in InterVarsity)
  • People from business, education, and church ministry contexts
  • Missionaries in transition

The placement and length of service of the Interim Ministry Associate is determined through conversations with the candidate and Field Ministries leadership. While the location of placement can be local to where the Interim Ministry Associate lives, it need not be. Periodic travel to the Area or Region can provide leadership without the Interim Ministry Associate relocating. The ability to travel regularly and with some degree of ease is a must for the job. Interim assignments typically last six months, but can be for shorter or longer durations, although no longer than twelve months in almost all instances.
