INDIANAPOLIS – 31 Purdue ATΩ’s attended Indy
Greek Conference 2009, seven made decisions for Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The initiative for
making this happen came from Purdue ATΩ alumni in partnering with a student House Ministry Leader (HML) and the Greek IV campus staff. The Monday following conference, at their chapter meeting, one of the 31 ATΩ’s that attended GC ‘09 stood up and made an appeal to his brothers. “I found God this weekend; please help me change my life.”
Six others made commitments to Christ, the rest came back changed. The entire fraternity saw testimony of Christ’s transforming power and grace. The Greek IV chapter at Purdue caught vision for “what could be” with good partnership between students and alumni. ATΩ’s astounding recruitment results came from the initiative of Greek IV and ATΩ alumni, Todd Hufford, Purdue ‘00. With the ATΩ HML, he is now casting vision to see this happen in other houses at Indy GC ‘10.
The ATΩ’s have seen God move in their house, now they want to see it happen in other houses throughout Purdue and nationally. When asked what he did to make this happen, Todd said, “There’s not much that you have to do.” With the Indy GC being in the Spring, he contacted the Purdue campus staff in the Fall and asked if he could help envision the Purdue ATΩ’s to get a larger contingent from his fraternity to experience Greek Conference. After acquiring the current HML’s contact info, he set up a meeting with him on campus and in their fraternity. At this meeting, he told his HML to “Think big. Get as many guys there as you can.” Todd made an agreement with the HML, “If you do your part in recruiting your brothers, I will round up other alumni and raise scholarship money to guarantee to pay 50% of the conference fee for every Purdue ATΩ that attends.”
After that, Todd made a few phone calls and set up a Facebook group of interested ATΩ alumni, told them what he was doing and started asking for donations. As the money came in for support, so did the ATΩ registrations. With Alumni Initiative and Student Partnership… an entire House was Transformed. This could happen in other fraternities and sororities around the country. Where there is a missional alumni and a student contact… there is potential for radical transformation. Is your house next?
