Greek InterVarsity Mission Trip to Haiti

Hey Greek students...join us for the Haiti Global Plunge, March 10th – 17th, 2007

Site: After flying into Port-Au-Prince we will travel two hours southwest to the rural village of Neply and will be staying in a compound built for missionaries.

Program: A day will be spent stateside in which we will receive cross-cultural training and team-building. In Haiti we will be spending 4 ½ days in the village of Neply. The other day will be spent touring through the capital and noting difference between urban and rural poverty. In Neply we will be performing a service project to benefit the people of Neply. At nights there will be teaching on Haiti’s culture and history, a theology of justice, and applications for return to the States. We will be in partnership with Alpha Omega Psi, a local Haitian fraternity. More information on the partnering fraternity can be found at: www.intervarsity.faithweb.com/AQPSi.

Goals:

  • Establish partnership with village and fraternity through relational time and providing a valuable service to community.
  • To have a better understanding of poverty and God’s heart for the poor.
  • That students would be able to effectively integrate this experience back in the US so that they have an understanding of the important role they can have as Greeks to use their majors and places in the marketplace or government as vehicles to bring about change in the world.
  • Challenge American students to become servants and learners who grow in godliness as they learn to depend upon the Lord while they are out of their comfort zone.

Orientation and Re-entry: Cultural and Historical information will be provided as well as skills for cross-cultural communication and etiquette, and integration of learning experience back home.

Costs: $940
