PROJECT APPLICATION

Uganda: NE Global Issue Internship

May 30, 2010 - Jul 6, 2010

New England InterVarsity Students should apply.

Site and people:
We spend half the time in the north of Uganda with an NGO called Child Voice International doing holistic outreach in the community and serving child mothers who are former child soldiers.

The other half of our time we serve in Kampala with an NGO called Come Lets Dance which does developmental work and outreach to slums and kids' homes.

Program:
We will partner with 20 FOCUS Ugandan students, who are part of IFES, throughout the project. We have a program of speakers and guided discussions with our Ugandan student partners to learn about Global issues from different points of view.

Ministry:
We spend each day doing developmental work, serving in kids homes, working on farms and in medical clinics. We also do door-to-door and open-air evangelism connected with a discipleship program and community development.

Goals:
Our goals are to expose critical global issues of our time and to serve alongside of those affected to better understand how Christ brings hope into these situations of pain and suffering.

We also have a goal of exposing southern Ugandan students to the affects of war in the north, so they take initiative to heal their land.

Lastly, we help students integrate what they've learned back on campus by providing encouragement and training in putting on an event during the next school year.

Orientation and re-entry:
Our Global Issues Institute is a robust academic time with many high caliber speakers on issues such as the church in the global south, current missions issues, and the impact of war, poverty and HIV AIDS.
