Uganda Nurses Christian Fellowship
Jul 14, 2010 - Aug 7, 2010
Nursing students entering their junior or senior year may apply.
Site and people: We plan to be headquartered at the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB) located in Kampala on Namirembe Hill, headquarters of the Church of Uganda. UPMB is a quasi-governmental organization that oversees the health work done by protestant churches throughout Uganda. UPMB has partnered with its sister organization the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau (UCMB) to provide much of the healthcare in Uganda.
Program: We will visit hospitals, clinics, community development programs, and nursing schools in Uganda to examine the various facets of healthcare in which missionary nurses may engage and serve.
Ministry: There will be opportunities to meet with and work along side of Ugandan nurses and nursing students.
Goals: The goal is to provide an overview of missionary nursing as an opportunity to serve God through the profession of nursing. The project will enable the participants to -
Examine the issues of professional nursing practice in another country
- Explore the various roles of the missionary nurse
- Investigate how culture impacts the understanding of health and illness.
- Consider missionary nursing as a professional career opportunity.
Apply the lessons learned in Uganda to your nursing practice and witness
on campus
Orientation and re-entry: The team will meet in the departure city Chicago for a brief orientation prior to flying to Entebbe, Uganda. Orientation will continue upon arrival in Kampala as we adjust to the time difference and become acquainted with our surroundings and new culture.
Notes about the Project: Check out the NCF brochure for more information!
