Travel Opportunity: Developing a Global Understanding
Vocational Missions in the Central African Republic
June 10-27, 2008
With InterVarsity’s Professional Schools Ministries
In the West, we can spend a lot of time struggling with the challenges of being a woman in the university, in the workplace, and in the church. Traveling outside of our known reality can place those challenges in a broader context. Learning what women in other countries are encountering on a daily basis can reframe the struggles and strengthen a commitment to care for and learn from our sisters in more marginalized situations. For this reason, Women in the Academy & Professions is partnering with InterVarsity’s Professional Schools Ministries to send a team of students and professionals to the Central African Republic in the summer of 2008. Don’t miss this opportunity to open your eyes and hearts to a bigger story of who we are as women.
John Terrill, Director of Professional Schools Ministries, has been offering the short-term vocational missions experience for several years, in partnership with Integrated Community Development International. This year one of the goals of the team will be to report on the status of micro-enterprise programs, especially among women in the villages. We’ll also focus on prompting economic development through high-level contact with government, church, and university administrators through one of ICDI’s key Central African partners, CIDEL. To help navigate and integrate this experience, Women in the Academy & Professions team member Sally Ivaska will travel with the group. Sally has lived in Africa for ten years and invites women in business, education, sociology, and other related disciplines to join her this summer to learn from and make a difference in the lives of women. French speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.
A video, application, and informational brochure are available at the PSM website.
