2010 Survey of Readers at The Well

Click here to take the 2010 Women in the Academy & Professions survey!

Years of praying among InterVarsity graduate and faculty staff workers, spearheaded by Sara Scheunemann and Jay Sivits, led to the preparation in 2003 of a survey for women in the academy. The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a need for a specialized ministry among academic and professional women and what needs this ministry might address. The survey was completed in 2004 by 66 women from 41 different academic fields. Strong themes that emerged were the desire of women to find professional mentors and the importance of relationships in whatever work they were engaged in.

Guided by responses from the survey, InterVarsity’s Graduate and Faculty Ministries initiated Women in the Academy & Professions in 2005. The Well first came online in the fall of 2007. Some of you, we expect, completed the first survey. Thank you! Now, five years in, we have designed a new survey to help us get to know you, our current readers, and to hear your thoughts on The Well and the ministry of Women in the Academy & Professions. We would love to have you participate. Take ten minutes to complete the survey by September 15, 2010, and enter our drawing for one of six $25 gift certificates to Amazon.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

The 2003-2004 survey helped to define the priorities for this ministry and to define its mission statement: “We are called to equip women and men to be a redeeming influence for women in the academy and professions.” With your help, and by God’s grace, we trust the current survey will help guide us in continuing to fulfill this calling.

  • Thank you, Sharon. Some of the articles you may find helpful at The Well are Offering Ourselves as Living Sacrifices, The Unlikely Conversion of a Radical Scholar, and a mentor article about being open with your faith. I trust your interest in this is shared by many of our readers. Thank you.
