Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When should I arrive?
Registration opens at 2:00 pm and accommodations are usually ready by that time. We ask that you delay arrival until then so the staff has the freedom to prepare the conference site. We welcome you at any time you can arrive, but suggest that you arrive by dinner at 6:00 pm for your own ease, nourishment, and orientation to the week.
Q. When do I depart?
Departure the last day is at your earliest desired time, with a pick-up breakfast available from 6:30 am until 9:00 am. Everyone should plan to vacate the premises by 9:00 am so the staff may prepare for the next group.
Q. What should I bring?
Cedar Campus has an excellent list of what to bring and (perhaps more importantly) what not to bring. You can read it here.

Seminars
An additional aspect of the week are the elective seminars offered as part of the evening program. These seminars will reflect the wide variety of disciplines and interests of those who attend the conference.
Conference seminars are open to all registered guests (faculty, spouses and staff) and include subjects that are academic and non-academic, theoretical and “hands-on,” of general and special interest.
Seminars this year include a variety of styles and topics:
- Reading between the Lines; Hearing between the Notes (J. S. Bach)
- “Running toward the Goal” on the Tenure Track
- Chesterton Reconsidered (G. K. Chesterton)
- Influencing the “Permanent Party:” The Faculty’s Unique Ability to Shape the Campus
- “Life on the Edge” of the Academy (faculty spouses’ discussion)
- Talking so Students Listen (years of wisdom gleaned from the lecture hall, Ken Elzinga)
- That’s the Way it Was (memoir writing)
- The What and the Watt of Colonel Mustard with the Candlestick (mystery writing)
- Women in the Academy: Staff who serve Women in the Academy and Professions will be serving the conference again this summer. They will offer a variety of opportunities for discussion and the opportunity for women to network across their lives and disciplines.
These seminars provide added value to the conference experience, and most people participate even though they are all optional. Perhaps you too might have a topic, question, or activity that you would enjoy leading. If so, let us know.
