EC Institute & Coram Deo MBA Consulting Programs

EC Institute and Coram Deo Consulting have joined together in partnership with InterVarsity MBA ministries to provide short-term consulting opportunities for Christian MBA students. Engagements in 2004 will be in China and Singapore.

These experiences are designed to match the particular skills, interests, training, and vocational call of graduate business students to the particular needs of people, organizations, and Christian ministries around the world. We also seek to discover and demonstrate creative ways in which all of God's people can be involved in His work around the world.

CONSULTING PROJECT IN CHINA

EC Institute works with companies that are actively seeking God's kingdom to rule and reign throughout their sphere of influence. For this marketing study project, participants will work with one such company that manufactures high quality products, which they in turn distribute in North America and Europe. The company, through the vision of its founder, embodies a unique and highly effective model of integrating business and faith to transform lives and communities.

CONSULTING PROJECT IN SINGAPORE

Coram Deo Consulting and InterVarsity MBA Ministry have an excellent relationship with a partner organization in Singapore, Eagles Communications, and will be building on past work they have done with them. The organization is run by a close-knit group of believers who have followed God's call to participate in a broad range of activities — reaching out to His people through for-profit consulting, nonprofit leadership training focused on ministry and business professional leaders, and more traditional evangelism activities throughout Southeast Asia. They are an exciting community and we have enjoyed partnering with them.

Last year, Coram Deo engaged with the organization's senior leadership to conduct a behavioral event study of top Christian business leaders in Singapore. The purpose of the study was to uncover common leadership competencies and characteristics among top-performing Christian CEOs. The project in 2004 will be a behavioral study that will build on and expand the scope of our previous experience. This will involve training in the techniques of Behavioral Event Interviewing (BEI), intensive BEI interviews with high performing Christian CEOs in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, analysis of the findings, preparation of a report summarizing our findings, and presentation of our findings to client senior management.

Costs for a trip to Singapore include airfare (approx $1500) and in-field expenses ($100 per week). The trip will run July 14 through August 7, 2004.

The group will likely meet in Seattle on July 14, 2004. We will then travel on to Bangkok, Thailand, for an Eagles Equipping Conference for young Christian professionals. We will participate as special guests at the conference and then conduct behavioral event interviews in Bangkok as part of our research. The group will then travel on to Singapore, where we will go through a training and orientation program on July 21-22. On July 23-25, part of the team will travel to Kuala Lumpur for research interviews. The team members who do not travel to Kuala Lumpur will likely make a visit to Indonesia for research purposes and interviews.
