The CSF-ESN Grant to Advance Christian Scholarship
The Christian Scholars Foundation is a small family foundation that makes annual grants of $6,000 to $10,000 available for the purpose of cultivating and assisting Christian academics. We especially wish to assist junior faculty members who show promise both in their academic fields and as Christian leaders. The intent of this assistance is to augment the grantees' academic credibility so that their views and opinions as Christians may be heard with respect in academe. Read more about the impact of past grants.
In light of the deep congruence of our purposes, CSF is partnering with the Emerging Scholars Network to offer this annual grant exclusively to ESN members.
CSF has made grants for a wide variety of research projects. Grants may also be made for conferences, research, or other endeavors that help to integrate faith and academic interests.
Our primary emphases in selection of grantees include academic achievement and promise, concrete evidence of Christian commitment, and evidence of an interest in teaching.
Grant Application Requirements
Should you wish to apply for a grant you should send:
- Your curriculum vitae
- A statement of your personal faith
- Letters of reference from three people:
- Your pastor or someone who can give a knowledgeable appraisal of your spiritual life, activities in church, and such other things as the reference might consider important.
- Another Christian faculty member (if available): We are
interested in how well you relate to students, how
well you teach, and your credibility in your academic
field.
- An academic official (a dean, department head, or peer): This person need not be a Christian. We would like them
to give an appraisal of your professorial qualifications beyond what naturally goes on the c.v.
- An outline of your plan for the use of the grant, including answers to these questions:
- How would the grant help you to improve professionally?
- Will the expenditure or project make you a more credible voice in your field?
- Will it make you a more credible Christian voice to your students?
- A budget detailing how the grant money would be spent
The IRS requires that we have full knowledge of your plans for use of the money, as well as proof that you have used the money as you proposed. Therefore, should you receive a grant, we will need copies of receipts or other proofs that the monies were spent as represented. Really quite a reasonable requirement. We would want nothing less.
Deadline: June 30, 2007
