Testimonials from Former CSF Grant Recipients

Read about the impact of past grants from the Christian Scholars Foundation.

"The grant from the Christian Scholars Foundation was extremely valuable in enabling me to establish international collaborations. The grant provided funding for a laptop computer and travel for a sabbatical in Germany with one of Europe's leading chemists. The European experience showed me how major researchers organize their teaching and research responsibilities, and I was able to adopt some of their strategies.

"The personal contacts have proven very valuable as well, allowing me to return to Germany for five months this past year. During this last visit, I gave eleven lectures throughout Europe on my specialty and another five presentations on Christianity and scholarship at universities in Germany and Poland. I have contacts in Sweden and Cologne that I am pursuing for further international collaborations.

"I am indebted not only for what the grant allowed me to do but also for how it helped me to think of new possibilities, such as combining chemistry visits with giving presentations on Christianity. I thank the Foundation and those involved in this work and pray that God will continue to bless you all in this endeavor."

Fraser Fleming
Associate Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry
Duquesne University

"As a junior professor, I remember how welcome the news was that the Christian Scholars Foundation was seeking to help young Christian scholars with their careers. The Foundation's financial support allowed me to make significant progress on several research projects I was pursuing by enabling me to purchase microfilm, books for my research, and even help with paying for permission rights for illustrations to be used in scholarly publications. The Foundation was extremely flexible in the ways in which it allowed me to use its funds to pursue my various research agendas. It was an absolute pleasure to work with the Foundation and its directors."

Paul Guthajr
Associate Professor
English, American Studies, & Religious Studies
Indiana University

"The generous financial support of the Christian Scholars Foundation was of enormous value to me as I conducted three summers of archival research in Geneva, Switzerland, on the reformed pastorate in sixteenth-century Geneva. For junior scholars like myself, these funding sources are crucial as we seek to contribute to contemporary scholarly conversations and (more importantly) serve Jesus Christ and his Church."

Scott M. Manetsch
Associate Professor of Church History
Trinity Evangelical Divinity School

"The Christian Scholars Foundation allowed me to serve my dual purposes as a Christian in academia: (1) to pursue my calling to mathematics and (2) to find ways to engage the university with the gospel. They funded my travel to research conferences and meetings with collaborators at a critical time as a junior faculty member entering a new line of research. They also supported an idea I had to engage my students in a book discussion club that I started on campus. We met on Saturday mornings for eight weeks to read a book by John Polkinghorne on 'Science and Theology'. CSF bought the books for all participants and provided the all-important pastries. The group attracted a mixture of Christians and non-Christians and helped both groups develop a worldview of how science and Christian faith can meet and inform each other in a mutually beneficial way."

Professor of Mathematics
Harvey Mudd College
