Micheal Hickerson
Associate Director
Emerging Scholars Network
Cincinnati, OH
Before coming on staff as the Associate Director for the Emerging Scholars Network, Micheal’s InterVarsity roots go back to his time as an English major at the University of Louisville, where InterVarsity staff were integral to his conversion, his spiritual growth, and his calling to integrate his love for Christ, love for literature, and love for community. Micheal continued his quest for integration while earning a Masters degree in Christianity and the Arts at Regent College. His thesis, “Familiar with Suffering,” was a collection of original poetry and hymn lyrics based on the Seven Last Words of Christ. Before joining InterVarsity staff, Micheal served as the Foundation Director for the Cincinnati Better Business Bureau.
Micheal, his wife Elizabeth, and their three young children are all life-long Kentuckians. They currently live in Northern Kentucky, where Elizabeth teaches music classes for children ages birth to four. They are blessed to be part of a community of young families within their local church, the same church at which Elizabeth’s grandparents were charter members.
Micheal’s favorite authors include Fred Chappell, Richard Wilbur, W.H. Auden, T.S. Eliot, and Michael Chabon, and he enjoys the music of Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, and They Might Be Giants. Among his and Elizabeth’s most treasured accomplishments are watching all Oscar-winning Best Pictures (in order), driving from Vancouver to Fairbanks (and back again), and instilling their children with a love of song. In what little spare time they have, they enjoy movies (particularly those of the Coen brothers), board games, and walks through their neighborhood.
