Howard Van Cleave
Associate Director, Midwest Region
Columbus, OH
Howard and his wife Debbie have worked in faculty ministry over the past two decades, helping launch faculty groups in Indiana and Ohio. His 39 years in campus ministry work, including three years in Australia, has helped him ‘stay young’ as he works with professor’s today at The Ohio State University. In 1990 he helped establish a faculty group at OSU (Faculty Christian Fellowship) that has been actively involved in the life of the university and continues today under the leadership of OSU faculty. More about this group is at www.fcf-osu.org He has served on the board of The Veritas Forum and has been involved in hosting forums at OSU since 1993.
Howard is a native Californian and attended California State University in Sacramento where he became a Christian during his senior year. He graduated with a degree in Recreation Management and went on to work for 34 years with Campus Crusade for Christ, serving in a variety of roles until 2004 when he joined the faculty ministry of InterVarsity. He has studied theology at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He also graduated from the Institute of Biblical Studies.
Currently Howard serves on the Faculty Ministry Leadership Team as Associate Director for the Midwest region. He and Debbie live in Columbus and have four adult children, one of whom is now a professor of philosophy. In recent years, in an effort to keep up with his triathlon daughter, he has started ‘competing’ in Duathlons. He enjoys cycling, watercolor, whittling, basketball, and watching NCAA sports. He is understandably a big Buckeye fan.
