Summer Faculty Conferences
This summer, we offer two regional faculty conferences in the Midwest and on the West Coast. These are not your normal faculty conferences. They offer spiritual refreshment, intellectual stimulation, physical activity, and, if you have a spouse or children, a chance for your whole family to relax together.
Midwest Faculty Conference: June 20-26

The fourth annual Midwest Faculty Conference, New Opportunities in the Academy: A Mission Possible, will be held at InterVarsity’s beautiful Cedar Campus, June 20-26, 2009. We are pleased to announce that our featured speaker will be Dr. John Sommerville, Professor of English History, Emeritus, at the University of Florida, and member of the Faculty Ministry Advisory Council. To register for the conference, click here for the online registration system. Housing and programs are filling up so reserve your space as soon as possible.
If you are still on the fence as to whether you should make this conference a priority for this summer, I encourage you to read reflections from past conferences to learn how others were impacted by both the camaraderie, setting, content, and integration this experience provides. This event encompasses much more than the word conference can possibly contain, so a new word has been added to the Faculty Ministry lexicon. “Confamication” captures the fact of it being a stimulating conference, a restful vacation, which can both include and be a delight to the whole family. It is a welcoming place for singles, couples and children as well.

West Coast Faculty Conference: August 2-7
We are so pleased to present our first West Conference at InterVarsity’s picturesque Campus by the Sea on Catalina Island, CA, this August 2-7, 2009. Tom Trevethan, long time InterVarsity staff in Michigan, currently working with Faculty Ministry and author of Our Joyful Confidence, The Lordship of Jesus in Colossians and The Beauty of God’s Holiness will lead us in our study. He will be guiding us to think about the theme The Grace of Exile: Living as Resident Aliens in the Kingdom of God. And you won’t want to miss our evening sessions, based on our reading of Andy Crouch’s book Culture Making (InterVarsity Press, 2008). Each evening a different faculty member will lead us in a discussion of what “culture making” looks like in their academic discipline. In this setting and enjoying stimulating content with other faculty, we’re only afraid you won’t want to go home!
With a combination of manuscript Bible study, optional faculty seminars, and time for personal reflection or group interaction, this conference encompasses a wonderful retreat for you and your family this summer. Many activities are available for children and spouses are welcome to attend all sessions. Your recreation opportunities include hiking, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and water skiing in addition to sightseeing and exploring. Register online today.
