The Christian Worldview & the Academy
Dates: Nov 9, 2007 - Nov 11, 2007
Hosted by: The Witherspoon Institute

From the conference website:

Christian students in the elite academy face significant challenges to their faith. The prevailing campus orthodoxy equates theism with superstition and considers traditional morals groundless, antiquated, and even oppressive. It pits the "historical" Jesus against the "Jesus of faith," reason against belief, and scholarly excellence against devotion. But these are not at odds. A joint initiative of the Witherspoon Institute, the Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion, and some of Princeton's Christian ministries, the Christian Worldview and the Academy Conference, will clarify the Christian faith's rational foundations, its potential for shaping scholarship in various disciplines, and its promise for engaging the wider culture.

Speakers will defend the historicity and authenticity of the Scriptures. Against the supposed tension between science and religion, they will point out the faulty presuppositions of materialism masquerading as science, the evidence for God's existence, and the ways that belief in an intelligent Creator have advanced scientific inquiry. Finally, ethicists will argue for the rational superiority to secular alternatives of the traditional Christian positions on moral issues regarding marriage, sexuality, and the sanctity of human life. The myth of faith and reason's rivalry will collapse as renowned Christian academics introduce students from Ivy League and peer institutions to the intellectual wealth and cultural and scholarly fruitfulness of the Christian heritage. It is hoped that the conference's personal and intellectual resources will equip many participants to renew the academy and culture as scholars themselves.
