2012 Midwest Faculty Conference (Cedar Campus, MI)
Dates: Jun 16, 2012 - Jun 22, 2012
Hosted by: InterVarsity Faculty Ministry
A time of refreshment and vacation
“Recently Carol [my wife] and I have been attending Faculty Conference. I actually thought this summer would not work because of international travel plans and a family reunion. However, both Carol and I decided that this time was important in helping me be reenergized and stimulated to get back on campus and do and be what God wants of me as a faculty member at The Ohio State University. So we will be back again this year and I am very much looking forward to meeting new and old friends who are also faculty at various institutions in the midwest and becoming refreshed in mind, body and spirit.”
— Warren A. Dick, School of Environment and Natural Resources
About Our Speaker

Mark A. Noll is the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame. Most of his teaching and writing deals with subjects in the history of Christianity, especially in connection with intellectual and political developments in the United States, Canada, and to a lesser extent the United Kingdom. He is currently beginning a book manuscript on the Bible in American history that tries to treat several facets of this important but also very complex story.
His recent publications include (co-author) Clouds of Witnesses: Christian Voices from Africa and Asia (InterVarsity Press, 2011); Protestantism: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2011); The New Shape of World Christianity: How American Experience Reflects Global Faith (InterVarsity Press, 2009); God and Race in American Politics: A Short History (Princeton University Press, 2008); The Civil War as a Theological Crisis (University of North Carolina Press, 2006); The Rise of Evangelicalism: The Age of Edwards, Whitefield and the Wesleys (InterVarsity Press, 2004); America’s God, from Jonathan Edwards to Abraham Lincoln (Oxford University Press, 2002); and as co-editor, Religion and American Politics: From the Colonial Period to the Present, 2nd ed. (Oxford University Press, 2007).
Mark and his wife Maggie enjoy opportunities to visit their children, spouses, and grandchildren. They are active in the South Bend Christian Reformed Church where Maggie has taught a women’s Bible study class for several years and Mark has done various historical lessons for adult Sunday School. Their leisure activities are pretty hum-drum, including reading, walking, visiting near-by parks, and occasional hours with “heroes” from the BBC like Inspector Morse, Miss Marple, or Hercule Poirot. They also manage to get back fairly often to keep up with friends at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Warrenville, Illinois, and at Wheaton College, where Mark taught for many years before moving to Notre Dame.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. When should I arrive?
Registration opens at 2:00 pm and accommodations are usually ready by that time. We ask that you delay arrival until then so the staff has the freedom to prepare the conference site. We welcome you at any time you can arrive, but suggest that you arrive by dinner at 6:00 pm for your own ease, nourishment, and orientation to the week.
Q. When do I depart?
Departure the last day is at your earliest desired time, with a pick-up breakfast available from 6:30 am until 9:00 am. Everyone should plan to vacate the premises by 9:00 am so the staff may prepare for the next group.
Q. What should I bring?
Cedar Campus has an excellent list of what to bring and (perhaps more importantly) what not to bring. You can read it here.

Seminars
An additional aspect of the week are the elective seminars offered as part of the evening program. These seminars will reflect the wide variety of disciplines and interests of those who attend the conference.
Conference seminars are open to all registered guests (faculty, spouses and staff) and include subjects that are academic and non-academic, theoretical and “hands-on,” of general and special interest.
These seminars provide added value to the conference experience, and most people participate even though they are all optional. Perhaps you too might have a topic, question, or activity that you would enjoy leading. If so, let us know.
