Global Missions Health Conference

The purpose of the Tenth Annual Global Missions Health Conference is to inform, train, and equip healthcare professionals and students to use their medical skills to further God's kingdom, all through sharing the Gospel with those in need, both on the international and domestic mission fields. This conference is the largest of its kind in the United States. About 2,500 practitioners and students are expected to attend.

Plenary speakers and topics include:

  • Is There a Role for Spirituality in Clinical Medicine? by John L. Tarpley, MD — Professor of Surgery and Chief of General Surgery at the VA Medical Center, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, Tennessee

  • Snakebites, Seizures, and Soros by Tracy Goen, MD — SIM Nigeria

  • Beyond the Crossroads: Communication, Culture, and Caring in Medicine by Dawn E. Swaby-Ellis, MD — Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia

  • Dying to Win by David Stevens, MD, MA (Ethics) — Executive Director, Christian Medical & Dental Associations

The conference will also offer a wide variety of workshops.

Students are especially welcome and will receive the discounted registration price of $20. In addition, the conference will provide students with housing in local homes at no extra cost.

Before the conference, on November 10, 2005, Southeast Christian Church will co-host, with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelism, The North American Consultation on the Role of the Church in the HIV/AIDS Pandemic. More information about this event is available at the consultation web site.
