This retreat is an invitation to come away with Christ to reflect on his beauty, consider his call, enjoy his people, and find rest and refreshment in keeping company with him.
The climax of the story of creation in Genesis 1:1 to 2:4 is the seventh day, a day of rest, enjoyment of God's artistry, and worship. Human beings were created to praise — to take delight in God and his works and to give voice to creation's praise. As we come together as followers of Christ and members of the university, we want to explore what it might mean to live a life of praise as we pursue intimacy with Jesus, wonder at his creation, relationships of love, and collaboration with God in work and witness.
We will be led in this exploration by our featured speaker, Terry Morrison, as well as learning together through small groups, time alone with Christ, leisure time and time to eat, talk, relax, and play.
Our speaker, J. Terence Morrison
We are delighted to have as our keynote speaker Dr. J. Terence Morrison, InterVarsity Faculty Ministries Director Emeritus. Terry was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with Celtic roots (of Scotch-Irish descent, his dad emigrated from Northern Ireland). Terry committed his life to Christ at the age of seventeen and discovered InterVarsity as an undergrad at the University of Pittsburgh. He has remained involved, first as a student (B.S., Chemistry, University of Pittsburgh; M.S., Chemistry, University of Illinois; Ph.D., Inorganic Chemistry, Syracuse University), then as a faculty member (Virginia Commonwealth University and Butler University), and finally in a variety of roles as staff with InterVarsity since 1974.
We have the privilege of having Terry’s wife, Shirley Morrison, with us as well. Shirley is also on staff with InterVarsity and is a gifted musician. She will be leading us in a hymn sing on Saturday evening.
