Noteworthy Interviews
| ESN Associate Director Micheal Hickerson visited Jubilee 2010 in Feburary, the annual student conference for the Coalition for Christian Outreach. While there, he managed to interview a few people that Emerging Scholars ought to know about. All four interviews that Micheal conducted follow. |
Updated with two additional interviews!

Jimmy Lin, an MD/PhD student at Johns Hopkins. Jimmy describes himself as a “medical and scientific doxologist”— in fact, even his Twitter handle is @doxologist. At Jubilee, Jimmy presented several seminars about being a Christian in the sciences and medicine. I had met Jimmy online through ESN, so I was very happy to have the chance to meet him and his wife in person.

Alissa Wilkinson has a professional life that probably looks like a lot of ESN members: in addition to editing The Curator for International Arts Movement, she also teaches writing at The King’s College and serves as Associate Editor for Comment, not to mention her various columns and articles in other publications. I spoke with Alissa about vocation, balance, and life as a writer, editor, and teacher.

We hope you are already familiar with Derek Melleby, author of Outrageous Idea of Academic Faithfulness. Read on to learn what he had to say about the impact of his book, how it tells his own story, and how you might seek God’s will for you before starting college by asking four great questions. Perhaps you are already there, it’s not too late to examine your goals and motives.

We are all looking for different things, but most of us have this in common: a desire for happiness. ESN National Associate Director Micheal Hickerson had the opportunity to talk with David Naugle, author of Reordered Love, Reordered Lives: Learning the Deep Meaning of Happiness (Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company), and ask him how he defines happiness in the context of academics.
