Flourishing in the Academy - Dec. 27-28, 2008
by Micheal Hickerson
A Gathering of the Emerging Scholars Network
The first national ESN gathering will be held December 27 – 28, 2008, as a “day ahead” event of Following Christ 2008, InterVarsity’s triennial conference for graduate students, faculty, and professionals. The theme of the ESN gathering, “Flourishing in the Academy,” has been chosen to complement this year’s Following Christ theme, “Human Flourishing.” Registration is now open for both Following Christ and the ESN national gathering.
Many Christians called to the academy find themselves alone in their work. The academic vocation is often misunderstood by the church, and the academy is all too eager to dismiss Christian belief. From undergraduates considering graduate school to junior faculty in tenure-track positions, the Emerging Scholars Network welcomes all who are called to the rich world of scholarship, research, and teaching.
Using a combination of speakers, group discussions, and career-stage workshops, we trust that you will leave with new relationships, a fresh perspective, and practical guidance for your next steps. The program will be appropriate for everyone from undergraduates considering graduate school to junior faculty in tenure-track positions.
