Transformational Development Conference
Dates: Aug 14, 2008 - Aug 16, 2008
Hosted by: Food for the Hungry and George Fox University

If you are interested in exploring the ways in which Christians can encourage a more theologically sound, multi-voiced and holistically integrated vision for the church and Christian development, then Food for the Hungry and George Fox University invite you to join them August 14-16, 2008 for a lively, rich and restorative conversation.

Overview

This conference will bring together a broad, interdisciplinary group – scholars and students from various disciplines, theologians, missiologists, and practitioners – to participate in a discussion about holistic ministry, Christian development, and living in the “already but not yet” kingdom of God.

We seek to recover our heritage in a whole gospel in which the spiritual, physical and social are integrated in both word and deed. We pose these questions: What does true, holistic transformation look like? How does our faith integrate with the ways we engage in this world? What is and what should be distinctively Christian about Christian development? How are we ourselves objects in transformation, even as we are agents of transformation?

Plenary Speakers include

Dr. Bryant Myers – professor of Transformational Development at Fuller Seminary, author of Walking with the Poor: Principles and Practice of Transformational Development, and formerly in senior management roles at World Vision International, including serving as vice president for development and food resources.

Dr. Evvy Campbell – associate professor of Intercultural Studies at Wheaton College, a Senior Associate for Holistic Mission with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, and formerly with Wesleyan World Missions in Sierra Leone and with MAP International.

Dr. Brian Fikkert – associate professor of Economics and the founder and Executive Director of the Chalmers Center for Economic Development at Covenant College, formerly a consultant to the World Bank a professor at the University of Maryland-College Park, and a research fellow at the Center for Institutional Reform and the Informal Sector.
