Comment on Doing Your Duty http://www.intervarsity.org/gfm/resource/doing-your-duty#com1831 Doing Your Duty

"Heaven knows how long ago I bookmarked this piece in my Favorites. Now, my only niece, the daughter of my only living sister (no brothers), is facing surgery for thyroid cancer. And tho' the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of an easy cure, there is the chance of her having the really awful variety. Do I doubt God's power to heal her? Not at all. But I, too, know He doesn't always work that way, and so far, He has chosen not to. A pastor-friend recently asked me to pray for his youngest son, who has uncontrolled epilepsy. Many prayers for healing had already been prayed, but with permission from this pastor and his wife, I spread the word far and wide, engaging believers around the world in prayer for this boy and his family. Two weeks later, he had shown much improvement...but not yet total healing. Yet, I know a number of instances--lived one, myself--in which God did choose to heal directly and permanently. Why me? Why those others whom He has healed, and not my niece or this 6-year-old boy with epilepsy? God has never answered my "Why?" questions. So I continue to ask for what I want and remember the title given to a book (now out of print) on the letter to the Hebrews: When You Run Out of Fantastic, Persevere!..." read on »

"Gail: Yes, Bosscher-Hammond semifinalists (all of whom have their FC08 registration fees covered) will be reimbursed in full any amount they've already paid toward the main FC08 conference. Comment on Starting a Fellowship for Christian Graduate Students http://www.intervarsity.org/gfm/resource/starting-a-fellowship-for-christian-graduate-students#com1823 Starting a Fellowship for Christian Graduate Students

"I am the volunteer staff at Syracuse University where we planted an undergrad chapter 3 years ago. Everyone graduated from Christian Anible's grad chapter last year, but between faculty advisor Dr Dave Richardson and I, we have been meeting grad students and so far meeting joined with undergrad. We met had a fellowship this week with a dozen more grads, and are at this point talking and praying on next steps. Having a list of contact people to talk to would help. - John Decker..." read on »

Comment on A Guided Sabbath http://www.intervarsity.org/gfm/resource/a-guided-sabbath#com1807 A Guided Sabbath

"Glory to GOD for wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and opening the blinded eyes! For the ones that know that the sabbath is on SATURDAY, not SUNDAY have received understanding of the LORD! And we must pray not only for the ones that have no choice because of their jobs, lets pray for the ones being led astray by false prophets or who are following tradition and are being led blindly...." read on »

Comment on Teaching Freshman English: Biblical Women and Other Heroines http://www.intervarsity.org/gfm/resource/teaching-freshman-english-biblical-women-and-other-heroines#com1788 Teaching Freshman English: Biblical Women and Other Heroines

"Dear Lisbeth: Great to meet you in cyberspace. Wonderful that you can discuss the core values of Esther and Ruth in your class. Both of these women have been models for me because they have made counter-cultural commitments: difficult decisions that cost them comfort and security (and for Esther, the decision to speak to the King could have cost her her life). Courage is often costly. The additional challenge is: since God wants us to be respectful of other people's views, beliefs, and feelings, how can we be gracious ambassadors while not compromising our beliefs? Authenticity and respect should go hand-in-hand. May God continue to give us all wisdom as we seek to honor Him. ..." read on »
