Graduate & Faculty Ministries: About Us and FAQs

Graduate & Faculty Ministries (GFM) is InterVarsity's network of fellowships and ministry among graduate and professional-school students and university and college faculty all around the United States.

In addition to the information on this page (an introduction and FAQs), please note the links to our Ministry Commitments, listings of chapters, and our contact page — all shown in the box at the right.

Campus Fellowships

The heart of our ministry is in our campus fellowships — witnessing communities of students and faculty who make Christ known within the academic and professional worlds. Campus fellowships provide opportunities for students and faculty to gather in large and small groups for Bible study, prayer, discussion, and learning. Individual spiritual formation occurs as members share ideas, nurture their passions, and submit their thoughts and lives to God's Word. Experience InterVarsity staff connect the local ministry to national resources and offer pastoral care and spiritual direction amidst the rigors of academic and professional development.

Conferences

National and regional conferences connect campus fellowships, link colleagues, and give graduate students and faculty access to the best of Christian thinkers, artists, and professionals. In a context of worship and teaching, delegates are enriched by interaction with each other and expand their spiritual and professional networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find an InterVarsity graduate-student or faculty fellowship on my campus?

Look at our lists of chapters. You'll find lists of chapters specifically for graduate students, faculty, MBA students, or Religious & Theological Studies Fellowship. Many chapters have their own web sites, and you can follow the links we provide to learn more about the local group.

If I can't find an InterVarsity graduate-student or faculty fellowship on my campus, can I start one? What do I need to do?

Yes! If you are interested in starting a fellowship on your campus, please email C.K. Anderson for more information and the names of nearby staff who can help. We also encourage you to read "Starting a Fellowship for Christian Graduate Students" for ideas about first steps.

Who is the InterVarsity Graduate & Faculty Ministries staff worker on my campus? How do I contact them?

Please contact us to ask. We wish there were an easier way to do this (for your sake and ours), but there isn't at the moment.

If I'm interested in joining InterVarsity Graduate & Faculty Ministries staff, what do I do?

Start by reading "Working with Graduate & Faculty Ministries" to learn more about what's involved and where we're looking to place staff. Then, get in touch with us by sending an email to C.K. Anderson with your contact information (name, email, phone, mailing address), a brief paragraph describing why you'd like to work with InterVarsity's Graduate & Faculty Ministries, and a copy of your resume. Let us know what region of the country you'd like to work in too. We'll forward your email to the appropriate staff director.

How can I give a gift to InterVarsity Graduate & Faculty Ministries?

There are five ways to donate to InterVarsity (including via our secure online system); read our Support Our Ministry page for all the details. If you're giving for Graduate & Faculty Ministries, please be sure to specify either GFM or the name of the staff worker you would like to support.

Where can I find information about Following Christ 2002, InterVarsity's most recent national conference for graduate students, faculty, and professionals?

FollowingChrist.org has everything from audio of the main plenary sessions to teaching materials developed for the tracks.

When will there be another Following Christ conference?

We're pleased to say that Following Christ 2008 will be December 27-31, 2008. Mark your calendar! For more info, see FollowingChrist.org.

What if I have a question that hasn't been answered here?

Please contact us and ask away. We'll get back to you as soon as we can.
