LawWe live in a culture where lawyers are often objects of derision. Yet we worship a God who spoke to his people in part through law, and the Psalms say that God's law is a delight to the soul and something to be treasured. Again, Jesus had plenty of harsh things to say to the lawyers of his day. Yet Paul taught that the state (which usually acts on its citizens by means of law) is ordained by God, and Christians for two millennia have found the legal professions an honorable calling. In the Law track at Following Christ, we want to explore these tensions. Our goal is to affirm ways that lawyers and law students can honor God in contemporary society, without papering over the systemic and personal sin that pervades legal education and the legal profession. Delegates will wrestle with questions like these:
As we think and talk together about these things, we will be guided by a mix
of practitioners and academics who can discuss their own efforts to honor Christ
in their jobs. The Law track program will employ talks, discussions, small-group
study, and prayer as we try to discover together how best to serve Jesus in
the positions to which he has called us. |
