Robert F. Greene, M.D.
Bob Greene was raised in San Jose, California, and attended Stanford University. He received his training in medicine at the University of California at San Francisco and the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and in orthopedic surgery at Stanford Medical Center. After two years on active duty with the U.S. Navy, he embarked on several decades of medical training and practice all around the world, in such diverse places as Vietnam, Belgium, Zaire, California, Kenya, Congo, Rwanda, and Gabon. After early leprosy work, his missionary medicine has centered on providing basic orthopedic and general surgical care, including the development and teaching of simple techniques for treating common tropical orthopedic conditions amidst limited facilities, with particular attention to the surgical care of handicapped children.
Bob's wife, Elaine, and four children have accompanied him on these adventures. Having benefited from God's grace and blessings in multicultural experiences and missionary boarding schools, the children are currently working or studying in California. Each one has experienced the joy and seen the rewards of serving the poor in the name of Jesus. The Greenes are currently living in Salinas, California, where Bob works in occupational medicine and Elaine works as a bookkeeper.
