The Perceptions We Face
Posted: 05.04.2004

Rick Richardson, InterVarsity's Associate Director of Evangelism, explores the issues of truth and power in a postmodern culture and their effects on evangelism today. The article was written for an Evangelism Roundtable, sponsored by the Billy Graham Center in Wheaton, IL on April 22-24, 2004.

Rick explains four implications for communicating the gospel in a postmodern context:

  1. "In starting spiritual conversations, assume mistrust on the part of seekers and skeptics..."
  2. "As relationships progress, be aware of the power dynamics in those relationships and seek to change those dynamics when you can."
  3. "Let Jesus continually correct and challenge your seeking and skeptical conversation partner, but let Jesus also continually challenge you."
  4. "Cultivate conversational communities to which people can belong before they have to believe..."

More Joy in Heaven
Posted: 09.02.2003
Spend a little more time focusing on the creating, loving, missionary character of God. Grow in compassion for the things that most concern God; grow your desire to participate in what God really cares about in the world, namely the reconciliation of all things to himself in Christ.

What is a Witness?
Posted: 09.02.2003
Jesus spent three years teaching his disciples what they should do. They didn't always get it. His final word on the subject was "witness." Jesus told his followers they would be his witnesses in the whole world.
