A Basic Gospel Outline
God
- God's character is holy
Rev. 4:8 And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and inside. Day and night without ceasing they sing, "Holy, holy, holy, the Lord God the Almighty, who was and is and is to come." Isaiah 6:1-5 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory." The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: "Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!"
- God is the creator
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
- God is loving.
1 John 4:10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:16 So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. Humanity
- Humanity is created by God.
Genesis 1:27 So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
- Humanity is sinful.
Romans 3:23 ...since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
- Humanity is headed for death.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Humanity is separated from God.
Isaiah 59:2 Rather, your iniquities have been barriers between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. Col. 1:21 And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds. Jesus Christ
- Jesus is God in the flesh.
Luke 22:70 All of them asked, "Are you, then, the Son of God?" He said to them, "You say that I am." John 1:1-51 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
- Jesus lived a sinless life on earth.
2 Cor. 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 1 Peter 2:22 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."
- Jesus reconciles us to God.
2 Cor. 5:18-19 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.
- Jesus died in our place.
Romans 5:8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
- Jesus rose from the dead.
Acts 17:31 because he has fixed a day on which he will have the world judged in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead."
- Jesus is the way to eternal life.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. John 5:24 Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come under judgment, but has passed from death to life. Response
