Creation Care Intern Position

The Cedar Campus Creation Care internship is a great opportunity to learn leadership and environmental education skills as you serve campers of all ages and work in a community of believers with the goal of serving Christ in all aspects of life.

To apply, please download the application in PDF format at right, and return to the Cedar Campus office as soon as possible. Ideally the position will start in Spring 2009 (or as soon thereafter as possible) and continue to the end of the season.

Major Goal:

  • To advance the purpose of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and of Cedar Campus. This three month position will be established to educate, interpret, and involve guests, staff and crew towards enjoying, appreciating and stewarding creation, as well as assist occasionally in the functions of the Recreation Department.

Major Creation Care Responsibilities:

  • Oversee nature programming at camp.
  • Develop educational experiences and resources for children, teens, college students, and adults.
  • Lead outdoor activities which fit into program schedule and give guests opportunities of experiencing creation during morning or evening children’s program, afternoon recreation as well as other times (i.e. morning devotional kayak trips, bird watching or flower hikes, sunset or stargazing cruises or Saturday options for IVLI)
  • Develop annual Nature Center display
  • Expand & update the self guided nature trails
  • Develop self guided kayak “trail”
  • Develop and interpret Beaver Dam trail
  • Collect or write articles for the Creation’s Voice section on the website
  • Educate the recreation crew to discover ways to integrate creation tidbits into what we already do and helping us to think more about recreation as re-creation
  • Document ideas and options offered (pros and cons) to help develop this program for the future

General Cedar Campus Staff Responsibilities:

  • Attend staff meetings as designated by supervisor
  • Welcome camp guests and be ready to serve where needed
  • Work with the Cedar Campus staff team as needed on camp clean up and projects

General Intern & Training Responsibilities:

  • Meet weekly with the intern coordinator and other interns (for prayer, debriefing, special assignments, support and encouragement.)
  • Special assignments may include the reading of an article or book, writing a paper, leading worship, etc.
  • Keep a journal that (at the least) responds to given questions re: personal and professional growth, observations and insights about Cedar Campus (and/or individual departments) as a ministry organization, and your own experience within the organization. It should also record questions that arise for the intern coordinator, the job supervisor, and the other interns.
  • Attend all official crew activities with the mindset to mentor and fully participate.
  • Develop and complete a project or program within your department.
  • Identify and improve on personal goals.
  • Identify the next step for you personally and vocationally after your internship, and be prepared to carry it out.

Qualifications:

  • Heartfelt affirmation of InterVarsity’s Doctrinal Statement
  • Whole-person commitment to Cedar Campus mission and purpose
  • Be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ: growing in love for God, God's Word (revealed in creation & written word), God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world (including creation care).
  • Ability to organize events and take charge of necessary details
  • Flexibility to work irregular and extended hours as required
  • Commitment to conflict resolution
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Aptitude for and experience in relating/communication/teaching people of various ages (i.e. children, college students, and adults)
  • Growing in Creation. Educated in, involved in and continually learning about the heavens & earth and its structure, flora and fauna-including humanity.
  • An appreciation and passion for creation, and desire to share its wonder and beauty with others, and the ability to help people make the connection – and realize the difference between – the creation and the Creator.
  • Able to follow direction and leadership
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Software applications

General Information

Room and board is provided, along with a modest monthly stipend. The option exists to do fund-raising to increase salary. Internship credit could be available if arranged with the applicant’s college or university.
