The Blog of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
Where Have All the People Gone?
In case you’re looking for us this week, we’re in St. Louis.
When I say “us,” I mean everybody on InterVarsity’s 2100 media and communications teams. We took off, got gone, skedaddled, bounced.
We’re at the Urbana 12 Student Missions Conference for the next four days, using every one of our vast and diverse skills to make sure that Urbana is the most amazing experience ever for students. In my case, that means handing out newspapers.
But just because we’re off-site doesn’t mean that this blog is going dark while Urbana is happening. On the contrary, this baby will be humming with more energy than ever. We particularly want to use it as a resource for those of you who couldn’t make it to Urbana this year. Just because you’re not attending doesn’t mean that you can’t still participate in Urbana in some way. Here are a few places you can connect with what’s happening throughout the conference:
Watch Urbana live at www.urbana.org/live. If you’re anywhere with an Internet connection, you can watch main-session speakers and hear about incredible things God is doing all over the world. This will give you a taste of Urbana. Unfortunately, it won’t help you experience the Exhibit Hall, Multiethnic Lounges, conversations over meals and in hotel rooms, small groups, or seminars, but it will let you get in on moments like Brenda Salter McNeil’s electric Urbana 06 message—“Never settle, because where you settle is where you die”—which people at InterVarsity are still talking about.
See what people are saying on social media. Read what people are writing on our Urbana Facebook page and our InterVarsity Facebook page. Want to talk to us directly? Tweet at us: @UrbanaMissions or @INTERVARSITYusa. We’ve even included a handy list of hashtags at the bottom of this post.
Keep checking the InterVarsity blog. Like we said, this blog won’t be shuttered during all the Urbana fun. In fact, we’ll be working even harder than usualto provide exclusive Urbana content to our faithful blog readers. On December 28 and 29, in particular, we’ll be posting “Urbana: A Day in the Life” stories to give you a taste of the breadth and depth of the Urbana experience. You’ll get firsthand accounts of several Urbana staples, including small-group discussions and manuscript Bible study, as well as seminars, the Exhibit Hall, and roommate huddles.
You can also check out the blog at urbana.org/live, where DJ Chuang, a friend of InterVarsity, will be live blogging his way through the conference.
Join us in watching and experiencing what God does at Urbana 12!
