Scot Bale Named Cedar Campus Director

  October 10, 2007

News Release
For Immediate Release

(Madison,WI) -– Scot Bale has been appointed as director of Cedar Campus, InterVarsity’s retreat and training center located on the Lake Huron shore of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He will begin his new job on November 12, 2007.

Scot currently serves as director of Discipleship and Outreach for the Vriesland Reformed Church near Zeeland, Michigan. He brings 14 years of Christian Camping experience to his new role with InterVarsity, including two years as program director and 12 years as executive director for Cran-Hill Ranch in Rodney, Michigan. While leading Cran-Hill, a 200-acre Christian camp, Scot increased the operating budget from $360,000 to almost a million dollars annually, and more than tripled the amount raised in annual gifts.

“Retreats and training centers provide a place for retreating away from what Richard Foster calls the ‘muchness’ and ‘manyness,’ to allow Christians to experience God in a fresh way,” Scot said. “In the noise, hurry, and crowds, it can be very difficult to hear God’s voice.”

In announcing the appointment InterVarsity vice president Karon Morton said, “I am impressed with Scot’s teambuilding skill, deep interest in discipleship, love of the natural environment, strong attraction to college ministry, and an ability to work with individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds and ways of thinking.” As chief administrative officer, Karon oversees InterVarsity’s camps and training centers.

Scot holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, with an emphasis in Religion and Psychology, from Calvin College, where he served as an InterVarsity Bible study coordinator as a student.

Scot and his wife, Monique, have four children – sons Seth, Eli, and Sean; and daughter Jessica.
